There was a day that I would say avoid Exxon because of toxic work envionment, but compared the Chevron the last few years it is looking better every day.

@pv

let me put this out there

the bottlenecks to doing work work assets are iteration speed and ability to ask subject matter experts questions

assets are what makes money for energy companies obviously. the whole company is built around harvesting energy.

so when you try to move technical people to india they are slower and worse, and until you send experts over to train them, it can’t improve. even then, the communication delay for basic questions sent to the field is absurd

indian assets now are only half the price of american ones. it used to be one quarter. they get double digit raises every year.

and so, the indian hub model is not suited for offshoring the most vital jobs to an energy company. this is what Shell learned and what others are doomed to repeat. it doesn’t mean there are no benefits to trying, rather that there are limits in numerous ways that come far sooner than the leaders pitching this to shareholders would have you believe.

Shell laid off their data leader and much of their India center that she led.

And then Chevron hired her to specifically grow the ENGINE.

Now Shell is looking to build up their US base again. Not to worry- when EB and MN finally decide that it’s been long enough to admit that they made a terrible hire with LC, we can go back to fixing this dumpster fire.

I mean. Exxon pay much more... come to think of it; pretty much any other oil company pays more.

But yeah; CVX want top quartile performance without having to pay for top quartile people
