I thought it was a good idea to keep piling on extra work to make myself layoff-proof. Instead, I'm now drowning, my work quality is significantly suffering, and I've set an unsustainable standard. I might have actually made myself a target by being stretched too thin.

Unfortunately its not about going above and beyond. The people who make decisions only focus on numbers. They don't even know who you are
No one cares about their jobs here anymore. They’ve ran out of bandwidth for scare tactics. Everyone is fully at the point of hoping they’re the next to be rifd instead of being afraid of it happening
My reviews went up with my self respect when I refused to compromise work/life balance. I got 5s and never did overtime. Every review was the same. 5/5 Excellent work, just wish you did a little more of it. I wasn't lagging behind my peers, though, by the numbers.
It does not matter how much wool the lamb produces in the end the farmer wants lamb chops.
I decided a while ago that I’m no longer going to go above and beyond. I’m going to do the best job I can every day but no more 55-60 hour weeks. No more canceling appointments or family commitments to finish up projects on time. Totally done!
@a7 Agreed! The level of fear and intimidation is no longer working.
I have done the same and have regrets
I worked the longest hours on my team and got RIFed. I think they will realize how much work I was doing when they try to handle it with the smaller team. It will just make their jobs more difficult.
Same. Now they are shocked when I dont volunteer or speed up my work. Its like, why would I? Ill get laid off either way. The scare tactic isnt working any more for me. at all.
