Physicians, social workers, counselors, nurses….how do you do it? I’m not talking about finance, IT, or those departments. Just the member interacting employees. You can perform whatever mental gymnastics you want to make you sleep better at night, but you’re really just gatekeeping healthcare on behalf of a company who’s primary responsibility is to maximize financial gain for its shareholders. Doesn’t seem quite in the spirit of the Hippocratic Oath the Nightingale Pledge. It definitely wasn’t for me.

@365 People downvoted this? I mean all you gotta do is Google it.
@32h RN here as well. Lovely cognitive dissonance on display. But before you act as the righteous guardian of taxpayer dollars, you might want to do just a little more research into Centene and their, let’s just say, legal entanglements with multiple states over fraud.
RN here. How do i do this job? Easy. Hospitals need to make profits too. How? They bill for inpt level of care instead of observation level. Why should tax dollars pay for a higher level of care when not medically necessary? Why should a hospital get 300k for a 13 hr stay for a lap appy? Answer, they shouldn't. That is what we do and why we do it.
@2tf They didn’t answer because they know its true. All their little ethics and morals are just performative. They take the path of maximum benefit and least resistance for themselves.
@z1 How do you know working from home is easier? Do you work from home, and what is your position working from home? Stop trying to make this a "my job is sooooo much harder than yours" to justify why some employees should be more sc--wed than others. EVERY JOB has its stress, whether physically or mentally. Just stop
i'm sad not many answered. i really wanna know. they should have to turn in their licenses for operational work against their Hippocratic oath (the doctors anyways)
Plenty of front line jobs for nurses and physicians. Sitting on your backsides and working from home is much easier though.
@ep Yes, they are losing billions. That being said, profit doesn't equate to them thinking "Oh NO! How are we going to pay our employees or give them raises so they can live?" It equates to "we are going to reduce our footprint and lay off non-C-suite employees, stop networking with doctors, and pull from markets that don't bring in the big bucks to ensure we can still keep our 6 and 7+ plus figure incomes". This hurts everyone involved - employees, their families, medical staff and members. And shareholders are the greediest of them all. ROI should end when they get back exactly what they first put in with a one time fixed percentage on top for profit - and that's it.
@OP First, who are you to judge? Your statement suggests people are walking around with the mindset of "how can we go against our moral obligations and hurt other people today?" Good for you that "it wasn't for you" and you got out or whatever you did. Most people can't just quit on principle when there aren't enough jobs to go around as it is, and there is no guarantee of employment elsewhere. They have themselves and more often than not, families to support. The little people that don't have golden parachutes are only doing what they need to survive - MIND YOU SURVIVE - not get rich at the expense of others. They don't control the unethical decisions that the people at the top make during the course of their employment.
What profit? The company is losing billions.
