Thread regarding EchoStar Communications Corp. layoffs

Teamworks tracking; February layoffs

Layoffs and restructuring are happening this month. Also, Teamworks metrics will start being actively reported to upper management and used as part of the justification for additional layoffs in 2026.

Post 9s, time offsite without PTO, total time onsite will all be monitored. Those of you waiting for a sign... I think this is it.

@1hx I agree that while these top executives try to figure out where the Hughes business should sustainably go, senior executives can make remedial decisions now such the removal of Teamworks, and the flexibility to work from home, to lift the morale of people at Hughes. But, you know, Teamworks turns Hamid on; that where he gets his willies. And work from home gives him sleepless nights.

@1h7 morale of the entire company is in the gutter. They need to give us atleast some incentive that things will get better. Talented people are leaving every week it seems. Atleast remove teamworks or allow one day work from home a week. Everyone is frustrated beyond belief here

at the current levels of morale they will go down faster and will not make any money to recover the debt Hughes has. Hope no creditor ever trusts this guy again.

Amazing how successful Hughes was until Charlie needed to move the money we made and then we had to start using awful tools like Teamworks. I swear Charlie must have hated Pradman and was just waiting to make Hughes crash.

@qx agree, at this point the younger or mid level engineers are doing a huge mistake if they still try to stick around with Hughes.
Paul and all other Top Executives’ response is always to continue business as usual. They are nearing retirement and are just buying time to land their happy retirement regardless of what happens to Hughes’ future or the other engineers.

@j7 I’d add on to this by saying part of the reason we haven’t kept up with the industry is due to the lack of younger engineers with fresher ideas moving up into management and leadership roles at the company. Most people here either have >25 years of experience or <5 years. For the younger folks, As soon as they get enough experience, they jump ship. I can’t blame them for that though, they can get a 30-50% raise just by going to another company.

I don't even blame EchoStar, Charlie, or Hamid on this one. Obviously they made spectacular decisions and actions that positioned EchoStar's future successfully.

These Hughes Network System issues falls on the hands of top executives (Paul G, Dan M, etc.) who probably saw this coming from 2019 (because everyone else did) and did nothing to reposition Hughes to a more sustainable field of business. They got too comfortable with their $400k/year salaries but failed to actually do their jobs to steer the ship towards success ahead of the Starlink takeover of the industry.

And now they're quiet. Dan M actually has a video of "5 Questions" and then talks about family, trips, and photography. Really?! Tone deaf. We need to know what they (Hughes Top executives) are doing to place Hughes Network Systems back into a competitive state within the business/industry. I'd care less about your trip to El Capitan.

What happened to the promise that Teamworks metrics wouldn't be used to penalize people? It was just supposed to be between us and immediate managers!

What happened to George’s word of “I’ve spoken to Paul and budget is frozen for 2026, there will be no more layoffs”………Shame on him and Paul. HR is looking for excuses to cut people by using Teamworks……Teamworks is a WORTHLESS metric - every genuine leader knows it. Paul and George should grow a pair and fight HR on NOT USING TEAMWORKS AS A FACTOR!!!!!
