Guys don’t work after 4-5, don’t go in early, don’t give up nights with your family, don’t respond to emails outside of work hours, don’t be proactive. Can’t tell you how much I have given up for this company over the last few years and what is there to show for it? No hope for promotion, 1% raises, took away my bonus, reduced 401k all for leaders to tell me I should be grateful I have a job. Sorta falls on deaf ears when your compensation is going up and ours is going down. All that to say, do the bare minimum guys, this company will not reward you for your efforts. On the contrary you’ll probably get laid off.

Do what you need to do to get by and stay employed… as long as you possible. This company will sh*t on you and not think twice. I have had a few coworkers pass away and we send the obligatory flower arrangement and forget they existed the next day. We are NOT a family. The worst is when they ask your “why”. My why is to get paid.

@hy Technically, only true if the person is paid on an hourly basis or if they are not getting all their work done to satisfaction for the day. Otherwise, using the same logic, if you work over 8 hours per day, the company is stealing from you.

Follow SD’s advice and have CoPilot do all your work for you. Just copy and paste it. Do nothing more. This is what SD, SH, etc. want so why work above that? Let them deal with the blowback for AI slop.
@dr to the employee who works late because it “causes them less stress”, you are doing exactly what they want. You are fooling yourself. You clearly are overworked and most definitely underpaid. I feel bad you have drank the koolaid this hard
It’s part of the corporate playbook to try and convince us that we’re like a family. It’s not unique to Optum…they all do it. It’s a lie designed to convince you to give them more than you get back.
However, our relationship to our job is not like family. It’s purely transactional. I think of my relationship to Optum as being analogous to that of a prost---te and her customer. They pay me money to do things I’d normally not do. The more they pay me, the more I’m willing to do. I appreciate the money…but I don’t love them, and I never will.
Welcome to the club and sorry it took so long for you to catch on. I figured this work focus philosophy out a few years back, and life has been so much better. Most don't really care either because they realize the game here. So nice not thinking much about work after I log off (nights and weekends).

The later in years I get the more I appreciate not allowing myself to be hounded by regret. Quietly quitting can be that little smidgen of control we have in this soul crushing corporate atmosphere. In fact, for those of us who have spent most of our lives trying so hard to please other people at the expense of ourselves, it can be sort of a challenge to unlearn those bad, self destructive habits. This is the perfect situation to stop struggling to please people(execs) that simply will never be satisfied.

UHC employee here who works late all the time. I don’t do it for the company or to look good for my boss. I do it because the work is my responsibility regardless, and it’s less stressful for me to stay late and finish it rather than be behind and overwhelmed the next morning

Trying going beloe bare minimum and see how long you can get away with it. You will be surprised.
I started this philosophy a few years ago and it's great. Sure, you still get sad with your bad bonus and raise, but in turn you take a few more hours each week back.
You take back more and more until you're only working about three hours a day and while you still hate your job and you hate the raises, you sleep good at night knowing you're taking as much back as you can and you're doing your best to minimize shareholder value and ruin SH's retirement.
