Why the RTO outrage?

We all did the five-day commute for years without this much fuss. Yeah, WFH is nicer, but going to an office is what we all signed up for originally. I don't get why it's such a shock to the system now. It's just a return to normal.

Remote work for some was part of employment terms. Some moved to different locations. Moving back is not an option for many.

RTO only applies to those living in the vicinity and whom are already in the office 4 days.

Some where legit hired on during the remote era, so many did not sign up for that, originally.

The outrage is proper, because there's absolutely no data to back up the reasons that ThD is claiming. "Closer to the customer" and other oddball statements are not grounded in any evidence. It's just a way for ThD to continue to rid of more people.

Every time I go to HQ, my productivity just drops. I spend more time talking to cohorts/dealing with distractions than I do actually getting work done. Not to mention, having to go to work just to get on remote calls is a complete waste of productivity when that could be done at home.

When I think about leading companies, the ones really innovating and poised for big things, it's always those that desperately cling to the way things were done in the past.

Why stop your simplistic contribution with just this one factor? At one time, people rode horses up and down dirt trails. Managed without electricity, heating, or indoor plumbing, etc. Smoked cigarettes right at our desks. Operated business with no computers, no automation.

I don't get why it's such a shock to the system to return to those ideals.
