Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Layoffs are never an employees fault

Please remember this if you’re second-guessing yourself. You were not fired. You were removed because of lousy leadership that can only make itself look good by getting rid of as many people as possible to make the numbers look better. That’s all this is about.

As a manager, I submitted the name of the newest person on the team for the RIF list, but it was overwritten by my upline, and we also let go of the most expensive employee. It did not end well, as that individual had unique skills that the more junior team members did not possess. Conversely, at times you may need to let more junior employees go to balance the age range for RIF documentation. No matter what you try to do as a manager, leadership can ultimately change what you have submitted.

@ej too many incredible leaders who got bopped or were fortunate enough for them to leave on their own terms for that to be entirely true. Too many monthly layoffs for years and years for that to be 100% true. Too much traffic on this board for you to be completely right and YOU know this.

Don’t embarrass yourself like this. Such a gross cope. Of course it’s sometimes about the employee. If you’ve ever been the person doing the laying off, you know this. The bottom line is, if you’re good at your job, you know it. If you su-k at your job, you know that too. If you happen to fall into the latter group, you also know now that you need to be better next time.

But don’t put out slimy posts like this. Yuck.

@b3 It is often the most experienced person and highest performer on the team that is cut. Fact!

This is the d-mbest thing I’ve read today. Sometimes it’s not about the employee, but sometimes it is. When the leader is given a number to get rid of you think they’re cutting their best person or the one they like the most? No. Not if they have any choice in the matter, and often they do. You get rid of people you don’t like or who are not performing. I understand it can be hard on the ego to be laid off. But wrapping yourself in potential delusion is going to protract the pain.

This is important to remember: they are looking at numbers and that's it. UHG is especially bad because they don't take factors like tenure, experience, or impact to business. That's what's different then layoffs in other orgs or non mega profit driven orgs.
