I have another degree and certificate but don't wish to work as that for Optum....when they are considering layoffs so they look at your resume and try to offer another job to get out of paying you severance

nop their "help" is you logging in to these "redeployment sessions where they pretty much tell how to trick recruiters and their screening process and not get rejected right away. they will tell you they will give priority to your app skipping the recruiter screening "IF YOU MEET CRITERIA" for the position. which basically youre competing with every other person that got let go just like you only to keep you with hopes and once the severance pays you get the email "thank you for applying but we went with someone else"
I was impacted by the last RIF in October 25. My team was wiped out but I was offered a position on another team. There was no mention of severance or lack thereof if I said no and asking never came to mind. It was a deer in the headlights moment. Wish I would have asked now.
You are usually responsible for finding a redeployment position. If you apply for and are offered redeployment, you will forfeit severance if you decline the offer.
It varies. I have seen several people receive unsolicited offers for placement on other teams. It seems to all depend on the type of job you were doing and if leadership in your areas knows of similar teams with open or soon-to-open positions.

Yes, the company maintains a “redeployment list” and it is shared across departments.
Leaders who have gaps on their team can pick from people on the list to prevent a layoff and retain talent.
If you are offered a comparable position and do not take it you may be ineligible for a severance package.
It completely depends on your department and management. I have seen it happen both ways. There was a massive round of layoffs where they did not assist anyone in finding new jobs, then there was a round where they were able to give employees the option to move to a neighboring department since they were hiring. So part of it depends on if there are jobs available to move you to. A co-worker of mine laid off in October 2025 from the company was able to work with a one of the recruiter that set up at least 3 interviews for him, but wasn't selected for the jobs.
I think most people report that they don't bother to help you find another job at all other than a couple token HR contacts. It would be quite the shock for them to look at your resume and actively place you somewhere else.
In my experience, I was laid off in 17. No, they make no efforts to help you stay on. You are responsible for reaching out to Managers (and the like internally) to get a job for a req they have open OR go through the careers pages and apply.
