Former mgr here. It’s difficult to get a promo with a meets but not unheard of. I had two staff bust their behinds one year and tried to convince mgt both needed an exceeds. I was told no so I asked for a promo for both. I had extra work to write it up but it happened. I couldn’t tell the meets til comp time. I thought he was gonna take me out and throw eggs at me but I told him I would take care of him in a couple weeks. He thought just money but I gave money and promo.

@af this is not for me, but in this instance it has been brought up with said manager every year, and every year the praise is there. Said person just doesn’t play politics.

There three ratings a Wells Fargo Team Member can receive:

Meets
Inconsistently Meets
Needs Improvement

If you can’t get promoted with the ONLY positive ranking then we’re all fhuckt.

@OP That depends. Are you a soulless brown-noser? Then you're probably already a TL or "manager." Anyway, that's the key to promotion at Wells Fargo -- being a completely spineless, soulless, brainless, boot-licking a-s-clown.

To paraphrase…

Promotions? You kidding me? Promotions?

I’ve heard less than 10% of recommended promotions that GET to an OC are approved.

@af You mean at this company. A healthy organization and competent manager would encourage development and promotion. This place can't even articulate the word competence.

2026 promotions are all title upgrades but no pay.

0% chance in this environment. You have to apply for new position for that.

I didn't know Wells offered promotions. I thought if you wanted to advance you just had to apply for a higher-level role.

@a2 it’s your job to bring it up and come prepared to prove you have a lot of the skills required for the next level. Stating you think it’s your manager’s job to talk to you about a promotion, likely indicates you’re not ready.

Promotions are basically unheard of these days, you need to pull a diagonal move if you want to move to the next salary band

Most likely not and if that wasn't discussed at your performance review, that's not a good sign either.

Promotions in place are rare as it is and they are really only given during the performance cycle as nothing is off cycle anymore without OC approval

Have you actually talked to any Wells Fargo manager? It’s probably PIP city in this organization.

If you had Meets and were promoted last year speak up. I doubt there are cases, but who knows?

Of course you can get promoted with Meets.

I wouldn’t think promotion as part of the performance cycle would be likely. But if you apply for an open job that’s a 1-up promotion, they might give it to you, if you’re the best candidate.

When are promotion discussions held? Was it during performance reviews or will it be during comp discussions?
