Pure sick looking at LinkedIn and everyone's promotions nearly all VP, Senior VP, Directors and Senior Directors. Not saying theyre not deserved I'm sure some of them are, but when you sit in a location closing later this year, knowing that other locations in the UK and Ireland closing, seeing people boasting (the same people who work from some of these locations but know their jobs are safe) its just disgusting.

Take it from someone who used to work at BNY and was a VP when I left. When it came time to look for another job it actually hurt me in my search. I’m pretty sure I was auto rejected at times and, at others, in interviews I was basically told a position might be beneath my level. Only one job asked me what the equivalent of a VP at BNY was elsewhere. I said I honestly could not say because the meaning of being a VP at BNY was different depending on where you worked. I am not trying to lessen the value of a promotion to someone who received it, it was farther than I ever thought I’d get at BNY. Just realize that not all companies are so free with a title.

Promotions are never for those who grind through the work day after day, otherwise, who would do the donkey work?
Promotions are for friends of friends, for people who look like you, who share the same culture, the same background, who drink in the same places.
Nothing new there. If you think promotions are decided based on your competence, you’re being very naïve.

@g9 likewise Wexford were told last January that office was closing and most would be out of jobs. Less than a week later site head updated her LinkedIn with her big promotion. Disgusting really when 300 + people she worked with, and was representing really, were hit with that news. It was a real 2 fingers to them

I work in a location earmarked for closure. During the consultation period (what a waste of time) we had to listen to an SVP telling us that we needed to work with BNY, give them a chance, don't make waves etc. Drumroll.... They are now a Director. Disgusting.

@dr exactly. How many of those people actually deserved a promotion based off their work? A few of course, but when ya've worked your ar-e off for years, seen people get promoted for pure lickarsery, and then the company treat ya like sh--e and close offices left right and centre - its hard not to be salty.

Soon the only people “powering our culture” (a very annoying phrase I’ve heard one too many times) will be the “thousands” of digital employees RV said he wants to deploy soon, Indians in Pune, a handful of AI prompters in the western world, and the greedy people at the top running the show.

Agreed. Ive seen many on the list that my team has to assist far too often. Because we are forced wfh and getting terminated by end of year because of it, we cannot get promotions. Instead we watch our hard work go to someone else instead . Its disgusting behavior from this place
