Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Is it me or them?

I have been at T for more than dog years and as I venture into job market, I am seeing hiring managers not having a clue who they want, yet interview me and send instant rejections after the first rounds. I am unsure if these are H1B postings, my tenure at T negatively affecting or my credentials. I am a bit flabbergasted on what to improve on if I can’t even make the first round. How did you overcome this?

Why would another company want to hire a whining has-been?

Why on earth would anyone hire an American when they can hire a H1B visa holder and get paid?
Start watching this at 4:07 and you will see what I mean. It's all a scam. They are making tons of money off of immigrants and they make nothing off of an American. Who do you think they are going to hire?

“That’s not really possible when you have been at T for 10, 20, 30 years or more.”

You are going to better off indicating you are coming back into the work force after taking many years off for family.

A lot of times there's already a candidate in mind and management is just interviewing and going through the motions.

We have a tendency to put AT&T experience a pedestal. It used to be a job where you could work 40 years, be paid well and respected as an employee and never leave.

Prospective employers would wonder why this person is leaving a fairly comfortable position.

It's no longer the case. Even Stank is saying this. Spend five years and move on... There's a constant threat of surplus. No more comfortable positions. Entry level jobs like wire techs have no solid upward mobility opportunities. Hard to move upward on the management side, as well.

Truth is, it's just a job. Not really a career anymore. Float the resume out there and gain more interviewing experience. Something will open up and present itself.

There's life outside the company. A lot of bad jobs and terrible companies out there. But there are some good companies that actually respect their employees. Best of luck.

Sometimes we really do have to rethink what's possible.

Having AT&T on your resume is a black eye. It’s clear what goes on here.

I am going to say it as bluntly as I can. Either you are ugly, lack social skills or just plain su-k in your interview skills. Do your homework and get better.
