It went from being a top place to work to feeling like they're actively trying to stress us out. The change over the last few years has been unbelievable.

There was a time where I would have let a truck run over me for Schwab, I was that loyal. We had an employee appreciation day and I was so happy and content, I thought I would never leave.
The next day, we get that return to office notice. And I rationalized that I was one of the people least affected by it so i wasnt nearly as upset, but that was the turning point. Not because of the order itself but because of the way it was handled, with no forewarning, an attitude that was massively disrespectful, etc. in a manner that was not only poorly thought out, but in my view unprofessional.
This in my opinion was the turning point. The attitude probably existed before, but it stained the reputation in the eyes of the employees I knew who started noticing a pattern after that. In particular, we realized a disconnect between the front line workers and upper management. I watched my supervisors basically deflate because they knew there were issues but had no power to fix them. Whenever we'd talk to the directors and voice our grievances with company policy explicitly stating its not our managers fault, they'd turn the question to "whats your manager doing thats making you feel that way?" Or they'd respond with something that more or less translates to "I dont care what you have to say, i just want you to fill out the pulse survey in a positive manner"
It became very clear after that event and everything that followed that for all Schwab talks about OneSchwab, that they were just like any other corporation out there. Maybe they were still preferrable to others, but not by much. It no longer became a question of "will i find a better working environment somewhere" the question became, "if im going to have a crummy work environment anyway, where can i go that will pay me best?"
Schwab likes to tout "Trust is built in a lifetime and lost in an instant". In my opinion, they've ignored that with their own employees and are feeling the effects. I think theyve crossed the point of no return on an employee morale level. For me, its sad to watch an empire slowly crumble
It has been this way for decades. A good management up to the SMD can isolate their team from the toxicity, but if they let the true Schwab culture permeate their/your team then a toxic culture you live. Had it happen to my team. Life was great, then they laid off my MD and SMD and the toxicity permeated every bone of my teams' bodies.
the Gr33d is finally showing its face and the upper echelon is to blame
Shut up and stop complaining
