Thread regarding Ford layoffs

It must be a lie, Farley's lips were moving

Who writes this dribble. Farley's first priority is Farley. No improvement on Quality (engineering or assembly) and we are not betting the future on ICE vehicle growth.
Farley will be long gone before the devastating quality issues are fixed.

Amidst a bevy of new car introductions, the quality of Ford Motor Company vehicles has taken a hit, and several popular nameplates have experienced high-profile issues since their debuts. Throughout 2022, Ford CEO Jim Farley has repeatedly stated the fixing quality issues is a top priority, and the automaker did hire a new quality czar to address the outstanding issues, who previously said that recurring problems should start to subside in 2023. However, based on recent comments from Farley, it seems that the process will be an affair that lasts several years.

“Fixing quality is my No. 1 priority,” Farley told the Ford Retired Engineering Executives group at their most recent gathering. “It is the most important initiative in the whole company. And it’s going to take several years. We didn’t lose it in just one or two years. Until we fix quality, nothing else matters.”

As Ford Authority previously detailed, a number of Ford Motor Company vehicles fared poorly on the most recent reliability survey conducted by Consumer Reports. The Ford Bronco Sport and Ford Mustang Mach-E both lost out on being recommended by CR for 2023, after previously being added to the publication’s list in late 2021. Additionally, the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator continue to be among the least reliable vehicles in the survey, and have been among that group since their introduction three years ago. As a whole, the Ford brand dropped four spots in the most recent survey. That said, a number of models performed well, including the Ford Escape hybrid, Ford Maverick, Lincoln Corsair, and Lincoln Nautilus, as all four models are now recommended by Consumer Reports.

In addition to ramping up production on its current and upcoming EVs, the company is still betting on its internal combustion lineup to grow and attract new and returning customers. Quality is a key components of its reorganization, which has essentially split its ICE and EV divisions into two distinct portions of the company.

I have never seen a bigger disconnect between how a CEO is perceived in the press and public vs their actual performance. Job 1 for Farley seems to be doing everything he can to be a celebrity CEO. Podcasts, racing, press appearances touting the fake car guy. Everything he does is designed to make him look good and distract from how the company is actually performing. He’s got fan girl #1 Phoebe Wall Howard in his lap and eating out of his palm, and the rest of the industry press follows her lead when it comes to coverage. It’s a joke. Hackett was a total buffoon, but he at least got called out for it. Farley is just as big of a buffoon but has better PR lackeys.

The media in this town needs to start doing their job and start covering this guy honestly. Farley stepped on so many people on his way up that it wouldn’t be hard to find them. But of course there’s no interest in that. Easier to copy and paste Truby’s talking points.

Root causes for Ford Quality Issues are far away from Upper Mgmt. Most of Ford Quality issues are related to Tier 2 or 3 or 4 quality issues. Tier 1's may be Magna, Linamar, JTek, Sumitomo, EFI, Means, etc. and they have competent engineering / quality team that have in most cases a good follow up with Tier 2's but their Tier 2's do not have the same caliber team and Tier 3's are even worse.
Boston Consulting is the reason why Supplier Technical Assistance Division is just a shadow of what it was in its heydays, people of the caliber of O'Neil, Smith, Bolas, Saieg, Nana, etc., are gone.
Once a product is launched and has been in service for months, the quality issues are related to Tier 2,3,4's not following their QOS. It has been proven and demonstrated over and over. Current STA team are just clerks checking boxes for useless APQP requirements that do not prevent quality issues.
As an example, Ford does not do Plastic Injection Modelling in-house. it was responsibility of the Bronco's Roof Tier 2, since Tier 1 buys the roofs and just do follow up machining and a-s'y. It was not a design related issue but a manufacturing issue where the Tier 1 did not do a good job revising the Moldflow plots to identify deformation zones after cooling.
10R140 Carrier is experiencing excessive wear at the washers for its planetary gears. The issue is not design but the Tier 2 manufacturing process that is subpar as well as improver gaging methodology not good enough to screen out defective products before being assembled.
Ford Quality Office, Bojo, Stranges, etc. oversold the use of Q docs (DFMEA, Interface Analysis, Quality History, etc.) as the solution to all Q problems, they were wrong because example after example the issue with quality is with mfg. issues at Tier's that do not follow DCP and have a sub-par QOS.
JF should fire Bojo, Strangers and all the Q Paper Engineers, they are useless. Instead they should hire more STA engineers and have them be pitbulls for Ford Quality. Bring back, O'Neill, Siaeg, Smith, etc, and fire Bojo, Stranges, Guarino, etc.
And do not forget UAW is the worst workforce, disloyal, disgruntled, spoiled and useless. Ford will do better closing all VO Plants in Michigan and Illinois and move them to Alabama, Kentucky, Texas.

Ford stock is down over 15% in the last 5 days.

Not good to own Ford stock. Also prudent to avoid Ford vehicles made in the last 5 years.

No quicker way to get fired Jim than be caught in a fib that impacts the stock price. Ford family will react quickly if the stock continues to drop.

You can always go over to Tesla and mess them up next.

Farley has a history of taking difficult problems and saying they will take a long time. I witnessed Farley saying it would take ten years to turn Lincoln into a leader in the luxury market. That was back in 2009 when he was Ford's new CMO.

Farley is another fail. As was Hackett and Fields. Farley is a sociopath, which makes him very dangerous to Ford's success. Under his so-called leadership; Ford continues to suffer quality issues, unable to launch relevant new vehicles, unable to bring to market digital or subscription based products, eliminated thousands of experienced loyal employees, unable to recruit talent with proven successful accomplishments, the list goes on and on. Investors and the automotive community ( lol as well data and subscription ) examine Ford's organizations, Next, Pro, Blue, E and question over and over what's the roadmap to profits that Farley avoids, just like Hackett, answering in clear terms. The stock continues to drop. Remember when the free press reported how Farley bought million dollars worth of FMC stock a year or so ago, well they kept it quiet when he dumped it! All this so-called talent is brought in from outside of FMC, from Tesla, Apple, Google, HP, Renault yet they have accomplished nothing to move the company forward. Lots of talk and billions spent and yet there's no accountability. Those of us working on real programs know the truth and its not going well. Post-it notes and HMW statements are not producing dollars. The majority of those SIRPd have landed incredible positions at competitors and tech companies, those were the so-called employees with skills no longer relevant while the inexperienced and fakes continue to bleed FMC. The BOD are mostly Ford family, ineffective at guiding any positive change. With a recession looming and nothing in the pipeline to bolster profits at what point will leadership be held accountable?????? I drank the kool-aid and believed the recruiters that FMC was an innovative and progressive company, well thats a bunch of bs. I dont know what the answer is, but I do know it's not working as things are now.

Fixing Quality is my top priority, except when I can drive Jimmy Fallon around in a puff piece designed to make me look good.

Eyes way off Quality, you're not foolin' anyone.

"And it’s going to take several years."

Translation: We're going to build junk for the next several years, but please buy a Ford in the meantime.

Just embarrassing. Spend the money and fix the issues now.
