Career architecture announcement of “New Improved Titles!” Is it?

How many people got an email this week about the restructuring of the titling system…. And how many were a demotion? My guess is all of them.

It was definitely a demotion for some, but not for others, and it was definitely to create loopholes for them to perform more heinous acts down the road. The serious issue is that it was a demotion of people's futures. Imagine you worked there for 30 years to earn the title of VP and then are suddenly referred to as a "Lead" and have to put that on LinkedIn or your resume?

@225 are you just thick? People are saying they are responsible for a number of things only to get told they fit into a particular category that isn’t always aligned in terms of workload with their new peers. Send out a comms and make sure people’s responsibilities also reflect their new ‘not-demoted’ title

@13m It's a demotion if you take a cut in pay, not title. Companies use different titles for different things: senior here won't mean anything elsewhere. Comment below mine says the same exact thing. Take that rude AF energy somewhere else.

@z3 Thank you, I have just googled Quiet Change and so many things now make sense. I had never heard of this before, but why am I not surprised that Pearson is adopting this approach! Such a sh---y employer that no one should consider working for even in the short term.

@w6 it’s called ‘Quiet Change’ and is a tactic used by tech firms. Google it

@cq and you believe them? Step back and look at the whole trajectory of comms from last spring. This is a two year plan to flatten, demote, and short change existing staff to scrape money together to continue to attract friends and such from msft and Accenture. It’s u deranged, planned and unethical.

@cq you might want to ask CARA about changes to bone payouts in coming years. It explains alignment to tiers coming!

They need to reduce workforce. To avoid severance they are doing this to pi-s people off and force them to leave

I got demoted from senior to just specialist. Some members of my team were just specialists and some were seniors. Now we’re all specialists but my responsibilities are far greater than those that were already specialists. I don’t understand how they can get away with things like this. This company is a joke

It's all about collapsing roles so that several people have the same job title. Then they have grounds for canning a load of people. Project based HR jobs have been advertised in the past few days to benchmark people’s responsibilities, salaries and bonus. In a few months people that remain will face pay cuts and zero, to no bonus. Time to get out.

Demotion for me and my teammates. Someone who starts next week would have the same title as someone who has worked here for decades. "Senior" titles that meant something before are now gone.

Not a demotion. Email said no change to day to day work, compensation or responsibilities.

Mine wasnt a demotion, basically kept me in the same place I was which is fine. Apparently in down the pipeline in this process theyre gonna review peoples roles to make sure they line up with their job responsibilties, to 'level the playing ground' i spose.
I heard about VPs etc loosing their titles etc, but then I guess maybe we dont know how decorative that was.

I guess we'll see...
