Thread regarding Charles Schwab Corp. layoffs

In person attendance tracking

Here’s what stands out:

It specifically flags badge-ins at non-designated buildings.

Amazon says managers must use discretion, but the data is now standardized and on-demand.

The conversation is no longer about remote vs. office. It's about measurement vs. trust, and input vs. output.

Do our managers track our location/ badge ins?

@2sy In and out is recorded for locations where you go through a badged gate to exit. Summary reports are only for the first badge of the day. Going to lunch and leaving aren’t reported on the summary. Detailed reports have every interaction with a reader including internal doors.

@2ve much appreciated. I'm fairly new to the role, so I don't think there's any job security issues, but the main thing is my role is heavily involved with Compliance/Supervision stuff so it seems like something they care about more. For reference, on Christmas Eve, we were the only team to fully come in, and I counted only ten others that were in that day all across different teams (in STL) and was really confused if we were trying to set an example for no one that was there.

STL is a ghost town so I'm not sure how much they actually care. That being said, my work is always completed and I'm available and cooperative, so it's not like I'm not doing my job or being lazy (quite the opposite compared to some peers).

@2v6

I get the quarterly automatically and can file a ticket to get more detail. My recommendation is be a mercenary. There's no respect for those coming in, many aren't and they will likely threaten long before getting rid of half the staff. Most importantly, keep good records off-site so you can show differential treatment and set yourself up for a fight later should they terminate you. As managers, we can't protect, but we can advise that you make it difficult for them, especially if you fall into any protected classes.

@2sy is the report something they request or automatically received? And how often does this report generate? I've definitely not showed up days I was supposed to but my manager hasn't said a thing

MD confirmed it’s badge in only. Pls are responsible for tracking but they get a report that says if your workday doesn’t match the badge report

@1e1 I am, but I'm in the STL location which from other coworkers seem very differently treated, but I can't tell how.

I don't think I could ever be a PL/exec here. Too much bullsh-t to put up with and I haven't seen a single person of this category work less than 10 hours in my department

@d7 You obviously aren't a Schwab employee, or HR/PL/Exec trying to mask as one.

@b5 maybe you are part of the problem if you aren't doing your job by managing those that are still non-compliant

@jv Correct, no badge out only in. The report can be run at any time by the manager without need to get hr involved.

@hf The location I'm at only has a badge in, and not out, so I guess they track badges in? I know people who aren't remote though and just have never shown up.

It sounds like unless they have reason to ask for the report though, they technically don't know?

@d7 also not b5. attendance tracking is available on demand for PLs for all locations. tracking is automatic and reports can be run for any time period.

@d7 Not b5, but Corporate Real Estate. They manage security.

@b5 what does CRE mean here? And are the quarterly things automatic or requested, and is it for all locations?

Quarterly rollups and data on request. Badges are CRE. No one cares unless someone questions. My team is ZeroRTO, but they know that I cannot protect them if enforcement occurs.
