I requested temporary medical accommodation and received layoff notice in few days. Also no one responded to my medical accommodation Request, not even an acknowledgement. Is this driven by this?

What's the number for Ethics?
this is illegal and breaches the retaliation policy. go call HR or ethics ppl right away and complain. they can freeze your termination at least as you sort this.
I don't know if it's a stretch theory. How do you justify having other members in the team within same role with sub par performance? There is a need for the role just not mine I guess. I trusted and let them know I have some upcoming ongoing issues and need to take some time off as needed. That might have expedited the whole thing.
Just proves we are just a number. Do not give extra minute to company. Clock in clock in and be a citi Zombie. Zombies who sleep at desks and do not deliver anything and keep blaming everyone else and create no work other than meetings
Wow! That's a stretch and fantastical theory.
How do you know the OP is using a medical accommodation request to get out of RTO ?
Sh!tty bank did the same to my manager a few years ago. He had C@ncer, asked for a medical accommodation and was on medical leave when Sh!tty bank "Laid him off" as an excuse.
So he was Bvtt Fvcked every which way by Sh!tty bank. His COBRA medical insurance expired after 18 months, had to suffer through C@ncer, had to pay more for medical insurance out of pocket AND was Unemployed!!!
Employers and HR are NOT your friends, family or advocate! Never forget this! We sit on opposite ends of the table like in a Court Room!
@bc my generic guess would be at least 4-6 weeks. If there are segment-level layoffs, the top will communicate down to sort performance on teams and or roles that are no longer needed. Typically this requires socialization at the leadership level, it's not simply one person making the decisions.
@b5 how far in advance do you think they know who will be laid off? I guess it must depend on case by case basis?
I had excellent performance review but I'm not a robot. I had genuine medical stuff come up in December. I only took time off few days, su-ked it up and worked. After coming to work for few days in January realized it's going to be very taxing on my body. I requested less come to work days but doctor recommended remote work until healing is done
Roles identified for elimination generally takes time and planning. Submitting a request then being informed of a layoff a "few days" later is way too fast for Citi - we move slower than snails. The reality is that your role was likely selected prior to your request. However, if you can prove that they fired you for requesting a medical accomodations, you have a major lawsuit on your hands, though I don't think this is the case and I anticipate that there is documentation with HR and compliance to prove it (there has to be bureaucratic policies and processes to follow based on regulations and experience).
Sounds like you filed an accommodation request because you knew you were on the chopping block for violating return to work or some other policy. The process for those requests take weeks (sometimes months) to be approved/rejected. Nice try though - maybe follow policy next time.
@OP sounds like grounds for a lawsuit tbh
I find that hard to believe as we are one big happy family.
This is the kindness of Jane. She’s doing you a favor of letting you go so that you don’t have to worry about asking for any medical accommodation. She’s doing you a favor and should be celebrated for her expression of kindness.
