Thread regarding PNC layoffs

Use your voice

PNC for a long time has done right by me but over the past couple of years there seems to have been a shift. I’m lucky to have managers who value and prioritize work life balance but it only goes so far when execs don’t share the same perspective or values. To all of those managers who are legitimately advocating for us grunts, thank you. To the other bootlickers & out of touch execs - shame on you, the company, and your shady actions - way to live up to “PNC values”.

If you work in Tech then you know the struggles we’ve had with talent especially on late night calls. Tribal knowledge is disappearing and talent seems to be hard to come by. Everyone is burnt out from these unrealistic timelines and constant hurdles being put in the way. “Do the job quicker and do it perfectly (otherwise change restriction)” all while navigating ever-hardening change controls and tools getting worse (like ServiceNOW). This isn’t sustainable.

As for RTO, my team is geographically diverse and several of us don’t even have a “tech hub” close by but yet we are showing as part of RTO? I can tell you, if/when I return to office, I won’t be interacting with my team nor any other teams I work with on a day-to-day basis. It makes no sense…

Either way, the damage has been done and we will most likely be feeling the aftermath of Bills recent RTO push for years to come (in terms of morale and talent) so in the meantime, use your voice & look out for one another. I’m sure many of us have dark days ahead so make sure to put yourself in other’s shoes before contributing to the nonsense.

I’m a nobody but to all whom are affected (myself included) I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this - just know you’re not alone. Stay safe out there and start looking

Its sad.. I started my job at PNC 6 years ago during covid and fell in love with the people and company culture almost immediately! This place felt like it could be home for the rest of my career. I was new to remote work like most others during the pandemic and I've never felt so productive in my life! The comfortability and flexibility I had motivated me to do more and better (even when pay is OK for my role).

However, ever since last year, they changed me into a hybrid role and let me tell you, it hasnt been the same since.. I've lost motivation and productivity to the level it was before covid. I dread the 45 min commute each way already putting me in a bad mental headspace where I need to think critically for most of my day (Coding). I'm in the office and find it hard to concentrate when there are many distractions (ex: people talking over eachother on other calls). It came to a point where I would end up doing my best work in the peace of my home and not doing much in the office.

My fear is i'm going to be a shell of myself and eventually end up finding a new job.

The dream is over.
