Thread regarding CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield layoffs

Freedom

It feels weird. Anyone else in the 1/9 group feeling out of sorts? I'm sure I'll settle into it. I'll definitely miss some of my co-workers.

And is it wrong to hope things go to cr-p with so many key, long-term resources out the door, myself included?

@pr any word on when the layoffs might happen? Asking for a friend who can't find anything else right now.......

I'm on team relief. Giving myself a month off and then will look for another job to finish out another year maybe two before retirement.

I really do hope things turn around for the sake of the remaining associates and our members.

I just don't think it will, not with the current ELT and their supporting cast of kowtowing middle management.

@pr is that because they farmed everything off-shore?

If so, I can say it didn’t work well because the migrations have been a mess!

@OP great timing, the board is set to narrowly approve the incentive payout but we’ve been told to prepare for what it looks like to not have one in 2027 and replacing it with a flat $500 given out as a holiday bonus in December 2026. Also, up to 20% of the operations team is set to be let go this year (mostly testers ,coders, contractors and possibly middle management). I miss the late 90’s and early 2000’s CareFirst, this place is a shell of its former self.

Well it's already cr-p, now it's imploding. If a recruiter calls, pick up the phone!

@OP It took me a little over a year to settle into retirement, but I chose to leave on my own terms. I still miss my coworkers, but most of them are no longer there. I understand your feelings about things going to cr@p. I saw that so many times over the course of 40+ years. The problem, some of the ELT will eventually fall, but it's those left to pick up the pieces who will suffer the most. Try and channel your energy to those individuals.
Take a deep breath, find something which energizes you until you settle into your much less stressful routine. Who knows, at some point they may come crawling back where you have the upper hand as an independent contractor, and you can name your price.
Best of Luck.
