Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

here we go again GT - another round of ReOrg

Not sure how other parts of Nike are doing, but by my count this is the 6th reorg in 3 years, all at VP level or higher, honestly I see why people ask what does GT do in Nike, we are too busy to deal with reorgs to do something innovative.... ohh and warm welcome to new VP of Tech

RA not qualified to run this thing. Shocked (not shocked) he got that promotion. Hopefully he gets a solid (and honest) #2 who knows how to run the show.

We bet the farm on growth in Russia. Then China. Might as well burn another billion chasing smoke dreams in India.

You all didn’t see that Nike just expanded the ITC campus by 126k sqft last week?

look at the open tech jobs. 50 job postings in itc. less than 10 in whq. this layoff season they will decide which tech functions stay stateside. for what reason would they want to keep anything stateside anymore?

@15 let the cat out of the bag. This is the real reason tech is moving to India. Building a base. Building investment towards those 75 million who will buy. Thats $10B a year.

India is a nation of scammers. It has the same problem as China (How are we doing there btw? 😉). People want the swoosh but they’re perfectly happy to buy counterfeit. A sizable percentage even lean into it, taking more pride in owning passable fakes than the real deal.

@119 well if you want to talk numbers , let’s do that - tap the 10% market in India that can afford these shoes , that’s 150 mil in a new market , you are right not everyone in India will buy , but you tap
that 1/2 of that 10% and you have 75 mil consumers

@11k software engineering graduates have a worse employment rate than art majors, no joke or exaggeration.

Yet somehow we still filled every last h1b slot in 2025, and DOUBLE that for all their wives working on their H4 spouse visa. Tech firms want their slaves and Indians want to be anywhere but india. It’s little wonder the rats have no understanding of national pride or why they cause other countries to implement immigration limits.

Can’t wait for all your renewals to get hit with a $100,000 fee torpedo.

34% of the posts saying that Indians are taking all jobs

33% saying they are overpaid for doing nothing

33% saying they are poor

Nike makes most of its money in North America. Bunch of turban brains here want to throw away tens of billions in business because of their self-centered pastoral thinking.

Cricket isn’t relevant because its fans largely live in huts without indoor plumbing. How many of your extended families buy $200 shoes? Just the ones participating in visa fraud.

@qy calling a club level sport NFL as the f*kng biggest sport event for a bunch of obese Americans who know nothing about the world is weirder , keep on crying about h1b - if you were ready to do the grunt work you would have the job….
Freaking country is made of immigrants and now thinks that they are a couple generation in so they can comment on all immigrants ; like your president trump said - just because you landed a boat 500 years ago , it does not make it your land

Isn’t bashing GT and cricket one in the same? Pretty much targeting the same genre of people.

OP here , how did this turn into a cricket discussion post - I am sure more people in the world think cricket a sport than there are that do Football is a sport, American football to be clear…. Can we just bash GT at Nike as a failure and not each other ….

JS is amazing. One sane leader in GT

@gs I’ve been in CP&I for a while, and while the atmosphere is definitely intense across GT now, let’s be real: the 'old way' wasn't sustainable. JS had to clean up a lot of technical debt and processes that weren't delivering. Transformational change is never comfortable and not for everyone. The changes actually drove for the first time a clear alignment with what the business actually needs from us. JS shifted the focus from just doing things to actually delivering measurable value. It’s a culture shock for sure, and those who weren't used to that level of accountability are going to be disgruntled.

Honestly, I'd generally be in the same boat about dreading this. But in the case of the CP&I director JS, it simply can't happen soon enough. 95% of the people in the org are afraid to even ask questions and the 5% do wind up fired. Not to mention how terrible of a "leader" JS even is.

@eh 10 more more empty sports jargon that Nike will use as business strategy:

  1. No pain no gain
  2. No blood no foul
  3. Just rub some dirt on it
  4. Trust the process
  5. Defense wins championships
  6. Both teams played hard
  7. It’s a business
  8. We can make the play-in
  9. If you’re not cheating, you’re not trying
… And my favorite at number 10
  10. Ball don’t lie!

Maybe hand out more high-fives on slack. Is that still a thing? I remember a management performance kpi was to hand out at least five high-fives for their CFE. Really!?

Another reorg! Truly revolutionary stuff. And yet somehow we still end up with a VP reporting to a VP who reports to… wait for it… another VP. Incredible. Really pushing the boundaries of pointless corporate nesting dolls here

Go until they get it right. If Nike needs to cut costs and the way to do it is offshore then whatever. This is a for profit company not here to give charity jobs to people. I’m not even Indian and I don’t care. Just fix it and fix the stock. If that’s my job then cool I’ll have to go find another. All business.

Not popular but complaining does nothing. Adapt and move on.
