Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

I’m fairly new at Pearson and shocked at the level of micromanagement at mid manager and even at VP level. Is this normal :s

They keep hiring people in lower level management positions to replace former leaders at a higher level to do the same sh-t. Fire a SVP and hire a VP to do the same job with less experience or NONE in the field of oversight, etc.

I work on the tech /pm side and quite honestly I had more respect for my expertise from recent college grads with almost no work experience at startups as bosses than here

@px, for reference I got laid off last quarter, I finally got an interview call for an 'junior associate manager', and the questions were around how I would problem solve - with 8 years of project management experience, this should have been a breeze. Unfortunately, I left Pearson with no management/critical thinking skills; I was so use to reaching out to the Director/VP (if they weren't already aware), and asking them what to do - then I was required to copy/paste their response or take the action they stated.

@p3 this is exactly what I’ve experienced. And when you then proactively check everything with them because they’ve crushed your soul and you no longer feel able to think independently, they complain that you’re taking up too much of their time and that they’re having to hold your hand.

Not normal at all, I've never had a Director aware of every comment/action I have taken. Anytime I may have taken an action which may be different, I would instantly get a teams ping, asking why I did/said what I did. This ended up in making more errors than actually helping.
The other thing, I experienced in my team is, its not a one on one chat, its the team chat - when I asked if we could discuss this in private, they felt its important that everyone knows so they avoid making the same error (of thinking for themselves?).
Anyway, I am not paid enough, if they want us to copy paste everything they say, I can do that.

I’ve come in with transferrable skills and told to do things exactly the way they would like it done. There is no autonomy and yes you’re right I feel like a child that can’t think for myself or make any decisions

@dd Exactly. All of those things drain time and don't contribute to improving what should be the core focus.

Yes, managers are hyper focused on meaningless metrics- # of gong calls, pipeline movement, d-mb contests based on faulty data, expense spreadsheets etc. Instead of fighting for better sales tools and helping reps close business.

You can treated like a child which can feel disrespectful but the frustrating part is that it creates extra time consuming busy work.

Not sure what unit you are but ELL has been pretty garbage for the past few years. Glad some of them are retiring.
