Just got let go today after an ironically interview with an internal group I have never heard of before but if you have ever seen the movie office space where they are asking "what is it you do here exactly?" it was almost spot on the nose! So be aware if you get pulled into a "confidential meeting" something coming down on you no matter what is said! Speaking as a corporate employee who was at Service Desk.
You should ignore the random speculation, but for the exact reason people need to feed their families and expect to do some honest work for honest pay, you have to look at the track record of Sycamore. It will be expected constant job cuts, layoffs, cost cutting, benefit reduction, and no movement. Anytime the workers get restless, a little nibble is given out to make it seem like things are better. Watch for the policy changes right before a mass layoff. No one knows when they will get walked out, so better to do it on your terms, there is nothing to gain from loyalty. Yes, someone else will take the job, and they know that, they can pay them less, less company history and experience means, it's much easier to get their objectives done. What are their goals, take any equity out of the company, creative transfer to debt, sometimes a quick bankruptcy to wipe obligations, and continue to leverage the remains of the companies to do the next. The only credit to them might be they will keep the companies afloat just enough to keep them on a balance sheet as an asset to leverage for another buyout elsewhere. They look for undervalued companies to take over to repeat this pattern with. The employees mean nothing to them, just like the furniture they throw out when they close another office. Now for some speculation? You will see "partnerships" in the stores, maybe something like Amazon returns receive and resale, or mini pop ups of dead brands like Party City. There will be diversification into anything they can shove in the corner to have the same employees also work on. Somtimes it may be jsut the same thing with their other brands. Some of these may be in collaboration with other private equity companies. Which leads to the next point, how do they get away with all this? Track through all the shell/holding companies they put things under. There are dozens of layers of different ones with anonymous owners, but somehow all connected. See where the taxes are actually paid and who owns what. It's Sycamore at the top, but the stuff in between is questionable. So, with all that, keep collecting the pay check as long as you can, but don't give up your personal sanity or life to the company. In the meantime, land yourself something better and move on, you deserve better.
