Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Anything Positive?

Is there anything positive at all for US employees at this company outside of having a job? I know the boot lickers will all say be thankful you have a job and accept gratefully every crumb they throw to us, but there is literally nothing to me to make me want to go the extra mile. No assigned desk, 4 times in office a week, most likely a garbage bonus, more layoffs to come. We just keep getting MW'd on over and over again here!

If only there was a way the labor force could organize itself and engage management collectively to bargain for a better environment.

There's very little positive in the Chevron office work environment. Nothing to encourage people to work hard and take risks. Add in the threat of Engine taking over everything, and you can understand why the Chevron population is split three ways: 1) Competent people who are capable of getting a job somewhere else. Actively looking, or continuing to deliberately build up their résumé and network in anticipation of a near-term jump. 2) Those few souls remaining who are within reach of retirement, ki-ling time, checking the boxes, drinking lots of coffee, eating breakfast on company time, leaving early to make up for it. Privately laughing that they're getting away with it. 3) Probably the majority, Chevron serfs without the capability, desire, or points to move on to something better. Hopelessly stuck in jobs with no future, accepting every benefit cut and hoping every morning they can snag a shared desk with some semblance of quiet and privacy. This class is loved by their SR feudal overlords.

"...they already made it clear there won’t be promotions and a career future if you are onshore." This has been crystal-clear since around 2018. I remember then management sending out their PRC flunkies to explain to people (usually high pay grades, majority demographic) why it actually made sense not to promote people, and infer they were already paid too much.

@OP If you’re not already looking to move to another company you should be. Those of us staying are waiting for the retirement points- especially since they already made it clear there won’t be promotions and a career future if you are onshore.
