Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Exxodus - Version 2

With the ‘generous’ and ‘industry competitive’ but below inflation pay rises for
most people; are you expecting another exxodus? Do people realize the company want you to quit so they can replace you in India or Malaysia

Lots of EM farewell messages on LinkediN already. Seems like the annual raise cycle had the effect the company wanted but not the people who they wanted to leave.

@re agreed, go look on the outside, the grass is not greener, is the same shade of brown… meaning cr-p

I’m seeing the pds shuffle already. Promises and manipulations already happening 3rd day in. Side conversations have happened already. If you want to stay but have no politics on your side this could be your year.

@OP ExxonMobil is a great place to work, a varied and interesting career is available and hard work is recognized and rewarded.

I really don’t understand all the complaints

It'll come back around. If there's any downstream manufacturing left in 5 years time, everyone will have finally accepted you can't replace dedicated engineers on the ground with remote grads plus a sh-t load of KPIs & V&V. I would imagine most middle managers involved in growing the TCs believe this too but turkeys don't vote for Christmas. They'll milk out their expat assignments and keep nodding and clapping.

@a2…is not that simplistic. Know someone in good health and w/secure retirement ($5-10M) — fully in right mind — who coasted years past 55 simply to pay for luxury cars and luxury vacations in full. They loved the work and was easy $$… a lot of it. Quantity of work was a different matter. Yet another example of working smart vs working hard.

There's nothing else in O&G. The industry just wants to offshore all work. Just wait until AI gets more inherent through this year. Employment in this industry is unbelievably shrinking.

It’s really about personal decision. If you want to stay in engineering and manufacturing, there aren’t many better companies. Now if you want to switch careers, there are much, much better opportunities.

@OP Where is everyone supposed to go? All of the O&G companies are doing the same thing.

If you have the means to retire just do it. Nobody in their right mind would stay in the workforce right now unless they needed the money and/or the health benefits.
