I’m willing to take almost any other job, even one that pays less, just to be able to leave this place. Five years here have felt like ten anywhere else.

6 figs in the bay area...did you get the oven box to live in or did you splurge for the refrigerator box?
Not sure what op does at Wells but I’m an admin in the Bay Area and this job is the best! We make 6 figures admin 4 we work 3 days in offices 2 at home. My at home days are naps and housework. My in office days are 6 hours with nice breaks to chat with work friends, long lunches. The work load is light nothing crazy. PTO is generous. No smelly Indians in my department. It’s a win/win/win.
Obviously its not a good fit. You should be looking elsewhere, applying and interviewing.
It sounds like you need time away from work more than you need a job. Get some leads going and make an exit plan that starts with a few months off.
@OP No one is stopping you from leaving. The door is wide open. All you have to do is go through it and watch itself shut.
Never leave without your severance.
I'm seeing an uptick in headhunter contact. Job market is mostly frozen, but not completely. Companies are getting ready to act on their 2026 budgets.
You might not be happy in a cr-ppy job that pays much less, which you have felt to have been forced into by the circumstances. Instead, regroup mentally, if at all possible, be grateful for good things in your life, and intensively and intently seek a role truly deserving of your interest, time, effort, and precious life. Once found, depart — on your own terms.
Probably every restaurant near where you live is hiring so go for it. But guess what? Doing actual work su-ks also and you won't be making six figures and getting 40 days of PTO a year. Farewell.
why? Payment also matters. Don’t be emotional. If next job paying you less and in the mean time make you more exhausted.
