Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

What do we think they will do this year?

  • Last year they flattened the mid management and forced most managers into a PM role, which made all of us be under some random new manager.

  • They implemented a 5 day RTO policy and are treating us like children by monitoring badge swipes

  • They started their super SUPER "secret" NDA project - or was that in 2024, i dont remember now... - either way, it aint gonna be ready in May LMFAO

So what do we think their plans are this year?

If I have to guess,

  • the RTO will be scaled back to 3 days/week and/or not being monitored anymore (I genuinely do believe this too)
  • The NDA project won't go "live" when JC wants it to (May) and will be pushed back again and he throws a fit... Maybe even gets fired for it! - hopeful thinking.
  • Promotions will be MIA again
  • A lot of Directors will quit because who tf wants to manage 20+ people?
  • They start laying off the FULL remote employees who aren't near an office and refuse to move near one.

Any other guesses?

The slogan was actually “Do less with less”. Which is comical because they laid a bunch of people off around that time and that work didn’t magically disappear, it was redistributed to those of us who remained, resulting in the actual “do more with less”.

But to your point. These slogans JC and BS come up with each year induce such a huge eye roll I’m surprised my eyeballs didn’t fall out and roll away…

It's just continuing. Nothing changes. More layoffs.

"We" think this year "they" will:

  • Come up with a new dum--ss slogan (remember "All In"? What about "Do More With Less" or "Play Nice But Win" or-) maybe something like "You Gots to Do What You Gots to Do!"
  • Fire a bunch of people, seemingly at random
  • Retain a bunch of people who su-k at their jobs, seemingly at random
  • Announce another global strategy to "Win The Market" that will fail spectacularly
  • Ask a bunch of drones why "morale is low" and how to "restore company culture" then get mad at them for honest answers

100% believe RTO will not go back to 3 days, no matter how non-sensical it is (I spent over 2 hrs round trip commuting to my office on Dec 31 solely for the badge swipe to look good on a Sr. 'Leader' spreadsheet, it's insane how d-mb this is).

If anything, they'll keep making things worse (8 hours, etc). Highly doubt they'll get rid of remotes, too many and in vital roles, but I'm sure they'll find a way to turn the sc--w on them a bit more, too. I already know one person who was passed over for a promotion solely for them being remote, manager flat out told him he would have had it if it weren't for that. He's been remote for well over 10 years and doesn't live near an office. At some point (or are we already there?) the best workers (who are still here, as layoffs have seen many of them go) will tell Dell to F off, and they will be left with JC and a staff of complaint id--ts, but when the key metric is showing up at an office, what do you expect?

The vision of this company...

PIPs are the new severance package.

Lower expectations and prepare for discomfort. In other words, get ready for each hand to grab an ankle.

It will only get worse. That's all I know.

I only disagree with point 1. RTO will get tightened, with mandatory 8h per day in. No badge swiping allowed. This will be done to force even more people to quit.

Five days in the office has become the norm. There’s no path back to less. Anything less is a fantasy.

Flatten upper management. We, the great unwashed, should start campaigning to take down some of the VP-class glitterati.

they won't be laying off full remote employees. Too many fill what is deemed essential positions. I know in ISG they all survived the past layoffs while many that were in all the time got the axe.

If the thing that cant be spoken about DOES go live, there will be layoffs on a massive scale.
