Avoid the Smoke and Mirrors

Hans used 5G to try and distract us from reality. Dan is using AI. The long term plan is not dictated by either of these technologies and while the changes and headcount reduction are part of a plan, we will not know what that plan is until it happens. A sell off? A shut down of all stores and migration to resellers? Moving wireline work to the newly acquired Frontier team? We don't know.

What we do know is the constant gaslighting over the years that has become nauseating. Telling us we have the best network and customer service when customers tell us the opposite?

Layoffs will resume Q1 of 2026. I am ready and waiting for my number to be pulled. With the writing clearly on the wall, how many people will be back on this website panicking because they did nothing to prepare for the inevitable? I hope it's a minimal amount but some will be blinded by a new year and an attempt at Q1 kick off meetings to distract the easily distracted.

We have a week left of 2025. Once the clock turns midnight, the peace and quiet is over and the cycle will start again.

Ask questions, ask for clarification when the answer doesn't make sense, and remember you are not valued as a person, you are a dispensable number and will be treated as such very soon. Meanwhile, our executives are raking in millions, annually.

Verizon Compensation (2025 onwards)
Base Salary: $1.5 million annually.
Short-Term Incentive: Target of 250% of base salary (prorated for 2025).
Long-Term Incentives (Equity): RSU/PSU grants with target values potentially reaching $9.5M and $20M, vesting over time.
Total Potential: Can reach nearly $60 million, depending on performance.

AI will not give Verizon a competitive advantage. This is because EVERY single company is doing the same thing. Yes,it may cut costs but it will not differentiate Verizon from its competitors. Therefore AI is not a game changer except Verizon will end up with 50,000 employees

History will show Hans got Vz CEO job as a throw in from Lowell/Board overpaying VODAPHONE $140,000,000,000. Vz Board included Vodaphone Executive.

What smoke and mirrors? Looking back at the 2025 kickoffs filled with jubilation, clarity and purpose - it’s clear to see what great and authentic leaders we have! I’m thankful they are highly rewarded for their success. Proud to be vz!

When I started in the Ma Bell system 50 years ago we routinely had skip level meetings that created actionable items.

Bell Atlantic continuted trend as did Vz/Ivan era.

Tgen Lowell/Hans went to surveys that identified actionable items but ZWRO accountability for execution. In effect they recogized Activity vs Results.

The Culture has been destroyed and cemented by DEI embedded in Verizon.

The Retail Stire/Strayer online degree Executives do not havebthe skill setnor will to challenge.

Verizon has become Sprint.

What a shame.

@ae It was a combination of leadership being in an echo chamber because they only promote yes men and women and hubris because they were convinced they were so much better than the competition that they could achieve the impossible.

Neville Ray of T-Mobile kept telling investors Verizon’s mmWave strategy would fail and even set up a demo at one of the investor conferences to show that closing a window made the signal unusable indoors.

@a5 odd, we made the same point about the restrictive physics of the mm bandwidth we won as well. No one had any idea, but we were tech support not network so people just gave us really blank stares in response.

IF many of us id--t worker bees saw this coming and leadership did not, what does that say about leadership? I mean they were proud, thought they outsmarted the competition

@OP I agree that everyone should have an exit strategy but at the same time, they should jump on the bandwagon of whatever is growing and whatever the leadership considers a priority. Whether that’s AI, fiber, or Fixed Wireless Access (the only bright spot in wireless currently). Priorities will change in a year or two and it will be time to jump on a new bandwagon.

I didn’t follow this strategy and I now regret it. Sincerely believing in what you’re working on is overrated!

@OP It’s hard to say who genuinely falls for these “strategic initiatives” and who is just going along to get along. I told my SD in 2016, when the leadership was all about mmWave 5G, “anyone who believes we can get ubiquitous coverage at 28GHz is in for a rude surprise!”

He used to brag about being a “truth teller” but his only reaction was to squirm uncomfortably in his seat! He knew I was right but he didn’t dare say anything even though we were by ourselves in his office with the door closed!
