Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

I’m surprisingly okay

I never thought I’d say this, but losing my job at Verizon actually feels like the clean break I needed. The place looked solid from the outside, but once I was in it, the long hours, constant pressure, and nonstop scrambling wore me down fast. I kept trying to push through it, but the stress just piled up and it got harder to pretend it was normal. Getting laid off stung for a minute, but a couple weeks later I’m honestly relieved to be out of that environment and figuring out what comes next without that weight on my back.

@bv - I don’t miss working AT ALL. Would retire right now. Only thing I miss is a study paycheck and benefits...next gig plan to aggressively save over next 3 to 5 years and then work only because I want to (maybe part-time) and not because I have to.

Something tells me you haven't looked into the price of health-care!

I don’t miss working AT ALL. If I could have my way, I would retire right now. The stress, office politics, toxic management… no thank you. I’m very much enjoying this time off.

The only thing I miss is a study paycheck and benefits, of course. Once I land my next gig, I plan to aggressively save over the next 3 to 5 years and then at that point … I will work only because I want to (maybe part-time) and not because I have to.

I was RIF'd too. My body crashed the first days after my notification. I was applying left and right, but ultimately the change caught up to me. I couldn't even get out of bed for a few days. Not from depression or sadness, but that the stressful presence finally left. I could finally rest.

I took a hard week off to recover mentally. I've mostly recovered and have been steadily applying, but I was in a headspace where I was so stressed, I could tell my body was struggling. I have health issues that impacted my sleep from it, and I kid you not, I've been getting the best sleep since I moved to Irving.

You are certainly not alone sharing your sentiment. The whole "V-Teamer" thing is all smoke and mirrors, designed to pay you less for "How great the place is to work!".

@bj
VZ can't make money if everything for the Govt is FREEEEEE
equipment, accessories, in buildings and month's of credited services
Govt is a money loser in wireless but the "sales reps" still get paid

They riffed people in sales in the Public Sector.

I made Verizon more money than they paid me. They are in for it next year with those that remain.

Honestly wish I was, but they don't RIF many in sales. They just continually raise quotas until we get sick of it and quit. Cheaper that way. This company is circling the drain.

Agree, the constant Fire Drills 🔥, scrambling to make our root results "appear amazing for the win" but not putting the same effort into the daily customer experience. Not going to miss any of that!

Wait until you are unemployed for months. I bet you wish you were busy than.

Amen to the original poster. I never worked in a place where the first-line people leaders were as incapable, selfish, and lacking experience.

I took the VSP last year. Once I knew I was going to do it and then after, it was then I realized I wish I would have took that step much earlier. Still grateful for everything Verizon did for me during great years ... but it is nice with a fresh start to see how other companies operate.

I was RIF'd as well, and I feel relief. No more working days and nights, no more stress regarding the fear of single handily causing a catastrophic network outage, no more pressure wondering if you are living up to your ADs standards. I'm done, and my mental health is 100% better! Life goes on. Good bye and good riddance Verizon. Life is good!

Sounds like perhaps it was a blessing in disguise? Made better things come our way to all of us who lost our jobs!
