Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Management are political pawns

Well if you are in management now at Dell you are just a political pawn. They’ve totally incapacitated you to make decisions on your own and actually drive any innovation. If you can get out you should, I don’t know anyone who just likes to make PowerPoints, kiss a$$ and lay people off.

The real leadership in groups like ISG and CSG at least are the ICs who are at least able to operate independently. At this point though all Dell management has become is congress. They do nothing but talk about doing, don’t actually do and kiss the a$$ of the person above them. They have no original thoughts of their own and if they don’t comply they’re gone.

If you’re in management just get out of it. It’s pathetic and sad. You’re just a pawn.

@aa many managers in many companies are like that - difficult to avoid without firing everyone over 50 years old.

This is how it's always been. Not only managers either, regardless of who one of the only ways to get ahead has been knowing the right people and in order to be really "successful" backstab others along the way. If you don't want to play along with the internal politics, you're out.

Only reason why it's getting worse is that a lot of the people that didn't want to go along with the bullsh-t have now been let go, and most of what's left are the ones that should have been the first to go.

What about all the great IC's they get rid of only to keep the bad managers, or worse case make them subpar IC's? This will work out well down the road, oh I forgot we only care about this week...

Yes and they all have political agendas. It’s pathetic.

What else is terrible is the “do as I say not as I do” along with the lack of technical skills and the general attitude of “I will do and say whatever I want”.

Some of the worst of it is that there are so many cliques it’s like high school. Results don’t matter. It’s who can make the best presentations and talk. Outside of that, that’s all it takes now.

Embarrassments.

The Enterprise leadership team under Jmiller is a joke. If YouTube is a metric they're crushing it.

I’m finally out. My ex manager was thinking about his retirement all the time and had zero ambition left. He’s just sticking it out for himself only and doesn’t care nor wants to spend his energy on his teams development or career growth.
