Is it just me, or are PIPs specifically designed so employees can’t succeed, and the end result is always termination? I'm starting to feel like this is the case, but it could be just me.

If you got PIPd by the group you were in formerly, and your new group values you, your new group can give you a reasonable assignment and you can pass.
If you remain under a miserable Supervisor that chose to PIP you, you need to have a discussion with your Supervisor about your PIP tasks and the chances of passing.
@ap+1kc29gnsh agree -Passing PIP is totally out of your control. You can do all items but exactly the verbiage you mentioned will be used to terminate you. I have seen few cases ended exactly like this
Recently passed mine. Lots of work and stressful knowing you could be out of a job soon. My supervisor was on my side, which helped tremendously. Recommend not getting in a position to be PIP’d (although I realize sometimes / most of the time it’s not your fault). Forced ranking su-ks and encourages bad behavior in the ranks.
It depends on why you got the PIP — do they really want you gone, or did you just end up at the bottom of the ranking pool to make room for the HiPOs? Or are you just in your 50s and they essentially want to keep you around but not pay you any more than you’re making now.
@aw Doesn’t matter. Your career is over after you’ve been on one. A PIP is also a good excuse not to give a raise or a bonus while squeezing more work out of the employee during the PIP process.
In a country with basic worker protections and functioning unions, all of this BS would be illegal.
PIP period ended in November. This time of the year, we start to document our accomplishments for 2025 because a new PIPing cycle begins early in 2026. Let the new games begin!
I personally know of several who had passed over the years. I know of one specifically this year, but that person was the only person I know of that was PIPd and didn’t take the PIL.
My employee should have failed the pip. I was not allowed to fail her because my N+1 felt bad for her.

Passing rate for PIP is actually >90%.
Don't take it personal. The vast majority of the time, it is a termination process where they set vague goals so that you can fail and they keep it for documentation purposes (the formal justification).
The decision to eliminate the position usually is taken at the top. The supervisor is only a messenger.
I bet you it will end like this: "I can see you have improved... but...unfortunately, it wasn't enough". That is the playbook.
But, enjoy the last months. This is corporate America. Not bad, not good. It is just how it works.

PIP = Paid Interview Process.
This the company telling you that they’re going to fire you. The PIP period is for you to find a new job, close out tasks/expense reports, transfer benefits, etc.
I personally always have at least one side-hustle going + passive income. Never trust these MFs. Ever.
I would say if you get a NI, you are on a downward spiral.
NI means company and your supervisor is trying to get rid of you. You outlived your usefulness. No one in the ranking session is advocating for you. Whatever past results and accomplishments will be minimized. You will be given vague feedback. Your story will be contorted to fit the narrative of your pre-determined ranking. Any project that has traction or visibility will be taken off your plate. You will subjected to gaslighting to make you doubt your abilities.
This is a very toxic place to work. If this is happening to you, save your career and get the he-l out.

Passing anPIP is possible. Having a meaningful career after being NSI is mission impossible.
