Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

G8 SLs days are numbered

What i can see is a systematic sidelining of squad leads across wealth and brokerage .The grade-8 SLs are on their way out. Squad leads are treated par with scrum masters.

Some observations…there is a lot of complaining! Constant change is important, you need to be like Dah,,,I need to adapt. New titles are cool and important…makes it sound like real progress is being made and you can brag with a new business card. Champion daily pizza and ask for cool-aid. Stick with it and su-k it up.

I don’t know how anyone can ever get anything done at this place. Everyone is always criticizing every role left and right to the point that someone has to switch roles so many times their responsibilities are meaningless. Fidelity is a cesspool

Those MBAs and History college majored squad leads should be rightfully sidelined. They can be useful in collecting business requirements and even dreaming up functional features of the products, but that's it. The rest should be driven by an engineering leader. The auxiliary Product Manager is the right title for them.

You mean they are not valued like before. I have seen engineering teams now taking the lead to deliver stuff. But isn't squad leads act as product managers and set the roadmaps for the product. Can you please share your observations? Earlier squad leads were very powerful and even influencing the development and design. Things have changed since Bob took over.
