We are told we can apply for internal roles, but then every posting disappears or gets filled before anyone even interviews. Before, you had a chance to move either laterally or upwards within the company, but now that seems to have completely disappeared. Is this intentional?

The internal postings are a waste of time. I got RIFed for Thanksgiving. They told me I could apply for redeploy but the jobs were cancelled instead of being filled. Your time is best spent looking elsewhere.
As someone who has transferred internally, there are real postings but they may be far and few between. It took 4 months for me to finally transfer. Lots of denials and no follow ups even when checking all required and additional recommended boxes.
I will note this, be careful what you wish for. Be careful what new structure you may be moving to because my job is now not as secure as it was where I was before. I wish I would have just kept the lower pay with the security I had.
Majority are bogus postings. They already have someone picked.. all just a show. Those with reference ID are h1b. For some i got rejection within 2 minutes even though I checked all boxes.
