Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO bringing back old burnout

Now that they forced everyone back in, the stress levels are rising fast. People are exhausted from commuting again, and half the office is talking about looking elsewhere. Add the constant layoffs into the mix, and you have a recipe for a disaster. It feels like leadership learned nothing from the last few years.

I’m doing fine so this is not about me just my like minded decent folk.

I got the layoff notice a bit ago. Was fine with WFH and contributed significantly doing so over Covid years (if you drive a truck or similar you may not understand how this is possible but you got a raw deal) but had no problem RTO either as I was lucky to live in a hub city. But this company has simply lost its way on how to treat professionals.

There are a serious amount of sh1t nuggets who post on this site. Who wronged you so badly?

I hope you get some empathy or at least a level of understanding when you need it. Maybe that’ll help make you more decent.

Let’s see, in 2019 I was hybrid 2/3 office, didn’t matter in what company building or city. On WFH days, worked at home, at the library, even at the beach. In 2019, didn’t watch the clock. Being logged in til 11pm was common.

When I got notice that the expectation was changing to 8 hours in one specific office only, was shocked and confused that they demanded that I work less.

That's what a loyal employee would do.
Stank has made it clear that he doesn't want our loyalty, I'm happy to not provide any. Sorry to disappoint (not really).

Sounds like this site isn't for you. The good news is that it's a big internet, with something to suit most everyone.

May I suggest bootlicker.com? Seems ideal for someone with your mentality.

This site is like listening to a bunch of 4 year olds who had their iPads taken away.

Jesus Christ, it’s a job, YOU choose to work here. You got a taste of wfh due to a once in a lifetime pandemic. It’s not the standard it’s the outlier.

Reset your minds to 2019 in terms of what you do to be gainfully employed or find somewhere else to whine.

Fu--ing children, man.

Look at how many jobs are posted internally based in Hyderabad. And they all can work remotely. RTO isn’t about making people work. It’s about creating miserable environments for workers so they will leave. Want me to work in an office 5 days a week? Fine. Give me a desk where I can put pictures of my family and a desktop PC so I can stop taking my work everywhere I go - including on PTO.

“Instead of showing empathy or even basic flexibility around the holidays, leadership doubles down like robots with no understanding of how real people live and work.”

If wanting a month off in December, use your PTO. T is no longer in the business of subsidizing days off coded as WFH.

“RTO isn’t saving culture; it’s driving people out.”

That’s precisely their objective.

Exhausted? Give me a break.

Look around at what’s already happening here. The under-30 crowd is leaving in droves for companies that actually offer flexibility and trust. Five-day RTO isn’t appealing, it’s a deal breaker.

RTO isn’t saving culture; it’s driving people out. If AT&T wants to stop the bleeding, it needs to end RTO and start listening before there’s no one left to listen to.

The 55+ will all be retired in 5 years, and you’ll have no one trained to step in because of your hard headed, dinosaur mentality, 5-day RTO policy…. Time’s running out.

People are exhausted, wasting hours every week commuting just to sit in overcrowded offices on video calls they could’ve done better from home. There’s zero trust left between leadership and employees, and every new “presence report” or “compliance check” only drives the wedge deeper.

Instead of showing empathy or even basic flexibility around the holidays, leadership doubles down like robots with no understanding of how real people live and work. Every decision feels designed to make life harder, not to make the business better.

And for what? The people who are sticking around just to reach retirement aren’t the future of this company. The ones leaving, the high performers, the problem solvers, the people who actually care, are the ones you should want to keep. But you’re pushing them out.

If this continues, in five years AT&T will have gutted its talent base completely. The knowledge, the innovation, and the passion that built this company will be gone. That’s not leadership… that’s destruction disguised as discipline.

It’s time to stop pretending this is working. Bring back flexibility, rebuild trust, and give people a reason to stay.

If the executives really knew just how many core employees working on their shiny new programs are just weeks away from working for another company they would sh!t themselves

Is this exhaustion something that didn’t exist before WFH? You would think the level of exhaustion would go down when you are no longer putting in all the extra hours 7 days a week.

Quit crying and get back to work.

Y'all been whining about this for years now.
