Project Panic

After 25 years I was terminated on 11/20. And now a local Engineering firm has just reached out to me to see if I would come to work for them on the projects I was working at the time of my dismissal. So VZ will now pay much much more to get projects completed and they won't be able to overwork me like they did in 2025. I was told my former manager was in "Panic" mode to get these projects completed. Should I take the job?

Taking orders from a contractor sounds pretty terrible

Six months waiting period to work as a contractor or to be rehired

6 month waiting period to be rehired as an employee. Technically VZ hires the agency, not individual contractors, which gets them around the 6 month rule. In the past VZ hired contractors directly, not through an agency. There are some of those arrangements left.

Between the fee to the agency and what the contractor earns, VZ does pay more in straight salary. Where they save is on benefits, which is not a small numbet.

Get your full severance. Work until ypur off payroll date. Then take the new job with the different company

@a1 He will still receive severance. Vz isn't hiring him, a contract company would be...

Get the severance, take the job to keep income coming in, and search for a new job while you are under contract.

@OP You would be wrong thinking Verizon pays more for contractor work vs head count. looks like they made the correct choice with you.
