Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Reorged but not working out

If you were reorged (moved to another department without applying / not your choice) and it’s not working out. Can you apply to another position within the company if it’s been less than a year? I know generally you should wait a year to apply but this role is not working for me at all. I want to go back to a similar role I was in before and willing to take a pay cut. Any thoughts or experience you could share would be helpful.

Not if you are in North America...

If the only thing that changed was your manager, and you are in the same role/title/grade level before the reorganization, then you can apply. You don’t have to wait.

What these amount to in most cases is a constructive layoff. I have seen people in Accounting at UHC moved to completely unrelated roles at Optum. They want you to quit, seek another job in demand internally, or inevitably get low marks (because you are in a job you never wanted or have any experience in) so they can fire you.

Good question. My team keeps getting moved, and it seems to get worse each time. Honestly, it feels like it might be by design to encourage people to leave without severance.

This exact thing happened to me this year, the new team was such a poor fit for me so I applied for a new role after only 2 months in the new team and I got it. The recruiter said it was ok because the reorg move wasn't my choice.
