Layoffs Rumored for Hughes in February or March 2026.

After parent company, EchoStar, made drastic business decisions Q2 2025 (see the news) to reposition the future of EchoStar, Dish, Boost, and Sling, with Charlie Ergen returning as CEO, Hughes was left out on the side. Akhavan continues to be CEO of Hughes.

After which, more than three rounds of layoffs happened at Hughes for Q3 and Q4 2025.

Top executives at Hughes remained quiet. Akhavan focuses as CEO of EchoStar Capital (a venture capital that manages the stockpile of cash from spectrum sale) while staying silent at Hughes.

Charlie began openly advertising Starlink as broadband partner of Dish and EchoStar infront of Hughes employees.

Paul G and Top Executives’ business response: continue business as usual. Hughes was carved out of EchoStar’s future because Hughes Top Executives are nearing retirement and are just buying time to land their own golden parachute regardless of what happens to Hughes’ future.

Hughes employees are gifted, resilient, hard working people. We deserve better. Fire Paul G, fire top executives, place a young senior executive in Paul’s seat, and sell Hughes to (???). Hughes deserves to continue on under new leadership and new owners.

I suppose they are trying to find a buyer for hughes.

@12f they have no plan for anything, boost is bleeding money as a MVNO, dish tv will gradually decline, hughes forgotten.

@12f no plan is mentioned i think they would still need a few months to figure things out

@y9 Can you expand? As someone that was laid off in August from Echo/Hughes, what was the jist of the ATM? What do you feel like the plan is for Hughes, Echo, Dish going forward?

It should be clear from that 45th anniversary ATM that Hughes has no part in Echostar's future. We were barely even mentioned, and the layoffs were not addressed. We're on our own.

@kf and they targeted non marjority people, like race, gender or age. They keep managers while cutting engineers, so discrimination

Exactly! I was looking at maryland warn site the other day and the only entry i saw for echostar was likely the first round of layoffs they did - count was 17! Absolutely ridiculous,

@jk this person is 10000% correct……These a-holes need to be held accountable……I have submitted the report to DOL and i will pass it on to others to the same…… EVERYONE SHOULD REPORT….

@f4, please submit an anonymous report to dlwdalwarn-labor@maryland.gov for WARN Act violations. The more of us that do it, the more likely they'll be to investigate.

Especially with this most recent reduction, they have to be approaching the "25 percent in 90 days" threshold. At the very least, there's a record of smaller layoffs that likely were done to avoid the WARN requirements, like you said.

Even if it hasn't triggered now, there's a chance it happens between now and the debt coming due. Get Hughes on MD Department of Labor radar.

@a3 There's never a great time to get laid off. But if I had to guess, they've been staggering layoffs all year to avoid warn act requirements.

About 100 employees laid off today. Hopefully that's it for this round.

@bt no one is going to buy it, they'll have to make it work or file chapter 11, echostar has no liability on hughes debt.

Are they going to eventually fire everybody and sell it off.. they sure seem ti be headed that way.

@b8 maybe Charlie will brag about how much money has in the bank in his own account and try to feel good about it at least

I think it’s partially also why they cancelled the holiday dinner dance. Can’t wait to see what “great” things they announce in the ATM this week.
