Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

That sounds like bs. How would HR and these numbers of the criteria could possibly be how chevron promotes people this year?

The company is d-mb, but it can’t be that d-mb, right? There are so many reasons why that is objectively one of the d-mbest things to do. You might as well promote nobody.

This “automatic list” (just for this year) that HR generated is everyone who is 5+ years in grade and 105%+ CO.

Then, the GMs of each organization reviewed that list and supported or not supported those candidates.

No supervisors got to recommend anybody. It’s just a tiny list based on an extremely braindead criteria because the vast majority of high performers who need to be promoted are the ones who might be just under 100% and certainly less than 5 years in grade.

If you’re 20 years in grade and 110% CO and you’ve not EOI’d and landed a job, that is not the type of person to promote. They ain’t going nowhere.

OP I would also like to know the answer to this question, but I think it’s clear that no one here actually knows the answer. Management has kept a tight lid on meaningful information since December 2024 sadly.

Likely there isn’t a defined process at all; just one more flying hunk of monkey $hit in this disaster of a reorg.

OP here. I don't mean automatic promotion. I mean lists that are generated automatically by HR for management to consider for promotion (if you're not on the list then you can't be considered). That is what has been communicated in my BU. Thanks.

Promotions are every 2-3 years for hipots, every 3-4 for everyone else. And it slows to maybe 5 years after a couple decades.

The only automatic list is for people who are PIJ (Placed-in-job). If for some reason you are in a Placed (not career ladder) job at a salary grade below the job’s grade, you are supposed to be automatically considered for promotion if you are delivering on the expectations of the role. So if you are a 23 in a Placed 24 job, you should be discussed for a promotion each year. Other than that, there are no automatic criteria.

Where is this "automatic promotion". As far as I know you actually have to apply for, or be moved to a different position that is a higher PSG. I have never heard of an "automatic promotion"

Prove how you meet the criteria for the next PSG in writing. Get your supervisor and PDR to support your case then you will get the promotion if there is a company need for another body at the higher PSG ,length of service has zero impact.

People at the top half of their pay band (or clearly operating at a higher functional level) whom they don't want to leave.

If you're waiting for the automatic list to say you're due, then you're way overdue and not selling yourself enough. Just be direct with your boss and come with some evidence. They'll be direct with you and now they'll know you're looking to move up

I asked my supervisor and he was clueless. It sounds like a decision made independent of your management. Perhaps something like time in position, years of service, percent of CO? It's extremely untransparent.

The only criteria is to be in “The Network”!

There’s no automatic lists. To get a promotion, you got to have sustained high performance, your job has to be rated for the next PSG, AND there’s got to be a “business need” (haven’t gotten straight answer on WTF that means). Plus the committee has to be convinced which means you need support from management. Just putting in the time is not enough. My boss never explained this because they didn’t even understand the process. I had to ask different people in the PDC lot of times.
