How is the "new & improved" rating process going for my fellow managers? Nothing like robbing Peter to pay Paul. How is this not a process filled with managers playing favorites? It is the most subjective process ever, and the end result will be a demotivated team after finding out their coworkers got a portion of their raise.

@vt Strangely, BB hasn't learned from his last gig. Sc--w employees. They sc--w back. He got forced out when Wall Street realized he was a one-trick pony (fire people, fire more, and hope for the results). How about give people incentives, like Everyday Wins, Service Dinners, etc. to get people excited. The share price has peaked. Cash out your GESPP or else.

In light of that, why should reward the peons for the fruits of HIS labor?
3M share price has done very well this year. Any chance of a higher AIP payout or higher increment % to reward the employees?
@js worked fine back then? So guys like Michael Vale getting 5s every year and a cheesy MBB role that led to a double promotion. Don't forget how he got in legal trouble in 2001 while at Six Sigma training in Minnesota. You can look it up. The GE forced ranking system is a resounding failure and easily manipulated.

@gp jimbo mcnerney somehow got in trouble over Sick Sigma and giving only people under say 35 or at most 40 the chance to be MBB. People sued for age discrimination since those handpicked MBB were given one or even two bumps up after moving to a new job. 3M had to settle under Buckley after Mighty Mack went on the nearly crash Boeing out of the sky.
BB is a mcnerney clone but not nearly as good with schmoozing the business media like Jimbo. He does make Wall Street happy with his focus on cuts cuts cuts.
With some jobs, based on your job responsibilities you'll never get the opportunity to work on projects that produce massive savings or massive sales, so you will never get a top rating.
Spoiler: Annual ratings ALWAYS have been about managers playing favorites.
@da remember those days all to well, especially the Mcnerney era when wages went up no more than 2 or 2.5 percent. A few people scored big while 3s got 1.5. Meanwhile, 3s in the other department got 2.5. Yep, more discontent is coming to a 3M nightmare theater near you.
Under the new 5 point rating system, each department manager would be given an overall budget, say 3%. Its up to the manager to decide who to give higher. Those groups with more 4s or 5s would get more while lowering what goes to the 3s. Compare with another team who has just all 3s. It becomes imbalance between 3s in different departments who would get different increment%. This is going to cause a lot of unhappiness.
This has been rolled out to give management an easier route to put people on PIPs and ultimately fire them. My manager has flat out told me leadership does NOT want to see any 3s, which can only mean you’ll either be overachieving or underperforming. God speed.
I agree this process will allow managers to reward their favorite direct reports even more than the current system. I can tell you right now which of my manager’s direct reports will get a high number and which will get a low number. Sadly, I am not part of my manager’s “inner circle” which she makes obvious in her treatment of me. So, I already know how I will be rated and it is will not be a good number.
This new rating system is not going down well with the employees when they find out their poor increment next April.
It's a disaster zone! All this meaningless talk about driving high performance and then managers are expected to reward teams with a miniscule budget....This whole process is a sick joke and will does nothing to incentivise or motivate anyone at the company.
This new "improved" 5 point system is super sh1tty. Imagine if a high performance team with more 4s and 5s. End up those 3s on the same team get penalised. How is this motivating?? Bunch of stup1d HR.
The 5-point GE style forced ranking system was created by demented Jack Welch wannabes to torment the masses while allowing leaders with connections and networks to conspire to against a nice guy/gal leader who simply wants to play fair.
Have seen this sinister process play out all too much, starting the Mcnerney years. Today's 2s (below average) will become tomorrow's 1s (unsatisfactory) while BB gives his cronies and kissups 4s and 5s.

All of the above combine to describe what BB has diabolically imposed. Apparently he's unhappy with the voluntary quit rate after imposing RTO.
If you're going to be in the line of fire being a 2 or 1, make sure you're quiet quitting makes your boss look bad. Maybe he or she will get a 2 if the team performance isn't cutting it because of quiet quitting.
Take the severance with a smile, especially if your psyops boss gets axed after axing you.
