Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

So does Fidelity not do merit increases?

New ish to the firm, just had my first year-end pay discussion. Talked about the bonus which I expected to discuss with how much they drive it home, what during my interviews and onboarding and even lately during YE performance reviews. What I did not expect however was seeing my salary will remain the same in 2023. I was told that while Fidelity might do market assessments and 75% of the firm might get an increase, I should expect a salary increase only every 2-3 years. Tf? Would have loved to have transparency on this during my interviews. Seems like the firm really bases their comp structure over this bonus system which may or may not be guaranteed, and you may or may not get a good individual % rating (regardless of your performance rating), and you may or may not ever get an excellent performer rating to up your pool.

This especially blows given they expect their workforce to increase their in-office time, adding to our expenses, commute time, mental health, and reducing overall job satisfaction.

Age discrimination at Fido is real.

That is awful. Is it a pay grade cap thing? I wish the pay grades would be re-evaluated. I usually only get 2% as well, but tons of praise, do lots of projects above and beyond my duties. Can’t believe this year some people are getting massive raises. Not sure why the last comment about it was downvoted, it’s true, some getting 7% etc. i got a great rating and didn’t touch anywhere near inflation, more like half. But no shares. Been here a decade, very low in the pay grade totem pole.

Been with Fido 16 years, and have not had a raise in 2.5 years. My boss gave me the same BS about the 2-3 years, yet before I started working for him I got a raise every year. Sometimes it was only 2 percent, but it was a raise. BTW - I am female, and over 50. Experience is clearly not valued anymore. Company going downhill fast.

Maybe they didn’t call it that because if you’re anywhere near your salary cap, you’re just screwed.

I believe if a COLA was included in the merit review it would have been announced and the same percentage would apply across the board, this would be fair to all.

There's nothing called merit at this firm. What works here is kissing a-s, for those good at that, and then the rest comes from "market research" and HR also watching to make sure women and other groups don't get fu---d too much because Fido doesn't want lawsuits.

people are getting large inflation increases this year it is well circulated but I got much less than that. (Some guy on a fid central pulse article comment complained of only getting 7%). Someone I know who just took a new job for a chunk even though he was new. And shares are supposed to be good…In the right business units.

Oh you don't want to be paid for your performance and just get automatic raises?

Not to blame the victim here but I have to assume that if you’re a recent hire, you were hired at a premium due to economic conditions in the labor market. Sounds like now that things are turning around a bit, Fido is tightening the purse strings to play catch up

Welcome to Fido! Hopefully you’re not in EI or ECC, if you are you’ll need to get use to this.
