Dell Private Cloud

Is anyone out there selling or deploying Dell Private Cloud? It seems like we are just selling on promise at this point, and I do not trust this company to execute the vision into reality.

It'll be interesting to see if it takes off even after more virtualization options are added because customers are being forced to buy our storage, like PowerStore, in order to buy DPC.

If you're a big shop, you'll think about building your 'cloud' yourself rather than face this type of extortion, especially if you're not currently using Dell storage. I get that management thinks this is a way to pump up storage sales, but customers have choices...

Dell does not have any good Cloud engineers. The last ones they had, were laid off pre Covid.

@j2 In other words APEX was what used to be called a wet lease in the equipment rental business. Your lease included a crew to maintain and operate the hardware. Like other posters said, it was outdated before it was launched.

@bd APEX was a project doomed from the beginning. Most customers saw little benefit. When companies like AWS and RackSpace were offering offsite storage that was easy to budget for and straightforward, Dell was offering to put the equipment on the customers’ sites, customer still pays for utilities, real estate taxes, deal with logistics of moving parts in and out from loading dock to data center, yet they don’t own the equipment.

It never had a chance. Our all seeing marketers then starting adding APEX to some services and then practically dislocated their shoulders patting themselves on the back.

That’s what happens when the decision makers don’t take advice and are convinced they are the smartest men and women in the room.

@c9 It is going to support vmware but not vcf as its being projected as a alternate cheaper solution.

Wait for another quarter and this will go down to the list of another failed products where we sales people will get punished for a “Engineered” product.

Until it supports VCF/Azure Local/Nutanix it’s a useless product. It sounds promising but every sales person was burned from how much of a sh*t show ACP Azure was and will be more hesitant to sell on promise. Anyone who sold it is still dealing with the consequences now without much help from the business.

The lack of detail on the roadmap is a bit concerning. A lot of “we’ll support VCF at some point” but the lack of how & when makes me think it may fall on its face.
