Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Consult an Attorney?

Has anyone considered consulting an attorney? Not for wrongful termination. Just to review the numerous documents to make sure we're not getting sc--wed according to your state's laws.

Attorneys only work on a % fee basis if they think you have a strong case. Otherwise it's a waste of their time (and yours).

Layoffs have been going on in Corporate America for nearly 50 years (Telecom for 45 years). If you don't think that major companies have the legal aspects of administering layoffs fully covered by now you're naive or totally unrealistic!

@bc the fact that a lawyer quotes you ANYTHING per hour instead of taking a wrongful termination suit on contingency tells you EVERYTHING you need to know about your odds. Whether that means the abilities of the attorney or the merits of your case. Because you’ll need both of those to win.

Shop around. If you can’t find someone to take the case on a % of recovery, they’re all telling you something. The choice to pursue the company is an economic one: “is your median award more or less than the amount I already stand to receive from the company in severance?” Be sure to factor in the value of your benefits and premiums paid.

~$300 per hour Consel fees will burn 🔥 through your severance before the ink is dry on your document!

It is a simple binary option. You either accept the severance and agree not to sue them for wrongful termination, or you don't accept it because you plan to sue. Take the severance. You can't win a wrongful termination unless there isa. documented issue that was going on. You won't win on s-xism, ageism, racism, whatever other ism you can think of. The ages posted here are 20's to 60's, every race, and every gender.

You can always pay someone $500 to evaluate the docs for you, but its not going to change anything. Verizon may not be efficient at much, but they excel at RIF's.

Verizon is clearly not new at this and their army of attorneys have covered all their bases. Don’t waste your time, energy or money. Probably best to also move on and start a new chapter for your mental health.

No. You accept it or you don't. They aren't going to negotiate a severance package they weren't required to give you in the first place.

don't waste your money. save the money. There is nothing your attorney would change or correct when it comes to severance unless you want to sue and you have a slim chance to win anything.
