Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

HR First Town Hall

We started the town hall strong, but things took a turn once the conversation shifted to “culture” and how we plan to integrate it into everything. It was disappointing to hear how culture and sentiment were being framed.

Culture isn’t a buzzword or something you sprinkle on top of initiatives it’s what employees feel when they walk through the doors every day. It’s reflected in how we support people, how decisions are made, and how work actually gets done.

Right now, we don’t have a defined culture strategy or a competitive differentiator, so saying we’re doing “market-based culture” rings hollow. And leaning heavily on AI because it sounds innovative doesn’t address the real issue: we haven’t clarified who we are, what we stand for, or how we create an employee experience people can trust.
AT&T is not culturally where it needs to be. Culture is shaped by systems, leadership behavior, consistent norms, and shared meaning—and right now those elements aren’t aligned or clearly defined.

Our HR is not about family values.
This HR has a cutthroat approach to employees.

To say she’s from Human Resources is a deconstruction of the very definition of that.

She acted neither human nor resourceful.
Good day.

She demonstrated why Human Resources should be abolished.
She’s trying to shoehorn ATT into practices that were appropriate for 1973’s America.
She’s Mary Tyler Moore calling her boss “Mr. Grant”.
Nuf said.

I don’t know how much more time is necessary to speak about this.
She was clearly incompetent and doesn’t fit what a modern HR person would say.

Let’s move forward and talk about something else.

HR is vindictive and working as a puppet.
They aren’t representing employees, plain and simple.
They are nothing more than vindictive Puppets.

My gut feeling is that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
She was merely paid to say these things.
She doesn’t believe what she says.
No integrity whatsoever.

Not the whole hour. She was okay at best until she dove into cultural issues and culture correctness.
I’m hoping to stay through next year with 24 years and then I’m out,

Can’t Fix Stupid and she represents how stupid our company is.

@OP AT&T is EXACTLY where it wants to be culturally. They are a company that cares more about the dividend than anything else.

The issue is that they preach product, customer, employee which creates a mixed message. When things get tough, divided always wins. Employees want to make product and customer decisions run into barriers when executives prioritize the dividend impacts.

Cash Flow/Dividend at risk? Cut or delay product innovation.
Cash Flow/Dividend at risk? Cut employees, delay promotions, delay hiring, cut benefits.

RTO is about finding new employees to match dividend strategy, it'll never work. No trillion $ company is shareholder first. They all focus on the product, the customer or the employee and believe that the shareholders will follow.

So THAT IS the culture until they get leaders who will move away from the dividend as the priority.

HR is the biggest hoodwink in corporate history. The rhetoric is needed to keep up the illusion that HR supports employees - you know, human resources - but I’ve had not one “human” interaction. On the other hand, they’ve been the tool, oftentimes the ax, for leadership to impart their imbalanced self-serving policies. No help whatsoever. At best they’re pawns but that’s displacing blame. In reality they’re purely evil.

AT&T culture is more like CULT-ure. The big Daddy leader somehow convinces the underlings that moving all employees to two main locations is so important, because “we are better together.” Then outsources work to contractors overseas who… work remotely and hide behind a portal so no one can actually reach a human to resolve the issues they created. All because someone wants to create AI agents to automate the billing and Customer ops functions. Then we get hacked - repeatedly. And just give someone an automatic $2 bill credit and continue serving the same “one year of free Equifax monitoring” koolaid.

Yet in every Town Hall, they sit there and talk about the employees are just horrible for not getting on board with their messed up ideology.

Instead of come to the altar, it’s come to the hub. Join us! Drink the koolaid! Transplant your entire family with all your own money and take a loss on your home equity because you have been made to believe that you can’t make it on your own without them.

More of the same , p-e on my leg and try to tell me it's just rain. At the end of the day HR is not, and never was your friend. The syop is just gas lighting, and them not thinking we can see it as that. Typical bookworms playing 2D chess in a 3D world. I seen it as them putting more of their ignorance on display. I will just play their game until they pay me what I want to leave.
