If we get a RIF notice, how long before we can file for unemployment?

@at usually by 30 days but they have up to 45 days to pay it.
How long after your last day does the severance payout hit? Before or after 30 days?
First second after you go off payroll start trying to file. Lines will be busy so prepare for that. Usually you have to do it over the phone and you will likely be on hold for a long time. They will answer eventually and they are very helpful
I think we can file as soon as we’re off payroll, correct?
@a2 some states will let you draw unemployment if your severance is paid on lump sum. They use to here on NC
File immediately and check your local state laws about collecting Unemployment and severance simultaneously. I know in NJ you can.
File immediately. You will likely be eligible, but even if not let them tell you.
California will approve. Just make sure you Al word it correctly. “Due to downsizing, organizational restructuring, etc”
Check out your state's unemployment website. Some states you can collect right away, some you have to wait until your severance period ends, some may not qualify at all due to the severance (rare).
It varies by your state
If you get severance, you most likely won’t qualify. Varies by state.
