Are there any long-timers that know how performance review rankings affect your chance of escaping these quarterly layoffs? Are only those with the "1" rank relatively safe?

Do not try and understand the ranking—that’s impossible.
Instead, only try to realize the truth.
There is no ranking.
There is only Hock.
Does it mean rank=3 folks are getting laid off every year? And new folks come in like sacrificial lamb, lol ? For next rank=3 and lay off cycle
You can be a 1 but if you don’t RTO, you are laid off.
The franchises (divisions) get choices of 2 or 3 bell curves from Hock to choose from: for example 10/85/5 or 20/70/10 or just "everyone's a 2" is the typical choice. Which one you got therefore was decided by your own GM and that's why they vary. A few franchises take a "everyone's a 2" making no differentiation at all, all get 100% bonus whether you're superstar or a p-d. I call them communists lol.
rankings vary every year. Sometimes its 10% Rank 1 80% rank 2 and 10% rank 3.
But it changes and each division is different. Last year my division did 10-85-5 some years we've done 20-70-10.
your next stock grant (all of which vest over 4 years when
Who the F will be around that long?
It’s time to leave , which is what Kim Hock Un wants anyway.
@2n1 That's true. The RSU's overwhelm the 150% bonus money for a 1... but what many don't know is that your next stock grant (all of which vest over 4 years when you get them) will be 2-4X more for the few 1s than all those 2s or 3s, and same w any base salary raises, so the high perf grade does matter to more than just bonus payout.
Who cares if you get a 1 or a 2 as most likely your RSUs are way more money than that. If that isn’t your case, look for another job asap.
All whom I've known from Broadcom went to FAANG+ companies actually. Google, Meta, MS, Apple, Nvidia, AI or chip co's, etc. Broadcom is top10 in the world and does a lot of different tech and becomes a more known name each year, especially by the companies I list who partner w them. You don't get to the $2 Trillion Valuation Club by doing dead-end tech, and they don't.
has anyone found work after being let go from broadcom ? So broadcom is basically a company of tired, old , skill dated, rest and vesters.... Now if they kicked you out , what does that say about you as an employee ? Why would any company want to hire you ? if you got a 1, best you leave before they make you.
I’m a superstar and ain’t never got a 1
10% of the org or franchise population receives a Rank1, which yields 150% of your bonus payout, rank2 gets 100%, rank3 gets 50% and probably an eventual pink slip. That's the facts, naysaying Jacks
No one ever gets a 1 . Its just a carrot to get u to burn out
It actually depends more on your franchise - newer ones like VCF or struggling ones like ESG have more HC to cut than others to meet profit margin targets. But in spite of all here saying "you're doomed no matter what", truth is yes a Rank1 can indeed save you when lists are reviewed and someone deems you a vital SME or necessary to keep lights on or profit going, etc. Hope that helps
The is no such thing as performance reviews, only high school clicks and EBITDA. Your days are numbered, start counting and preparing your next gig.
Nobody is safe in Broadcom except for Hock. If Hock wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and thinks about you..then you will be gone in a second. Doesn't matter if you are a top ranker or not. Just dont stress about it and enjoy the ride while it lasts
The only thing that matters is, are you in an office and have you kissed the ring of the director above you lately. Even then you are not safe.
