Dan plainly stated “cost reductions will be a way of life for us here”. This is only the first wave. Don’t get comfortable even if you survive this first round. There absolutely will be more RIFs and/or VSPs in 2026 and beyond.
Not pessimistic, just facing realities of the times.
RIFs and downsizing has been a way of life at Verizon since the beginning. They have RIFs every year.
@a2 yes, suddenly no one cares of network and taking it for granted, guess what the engineers will be also working as expectation is mediocre at best, as that is what being expected even though failure of upper management or business decisions caused all the mess.
Round two will definitely be worse and there likely won't be the same severance package. Please axe me now!

Have witnessed 1Q/3Q layoffs nearly every year for the last 3-5 years. 2024's VSP only shed 4800 employees.
Layoffs have been a way of life at Verizon for the last 2 decades. Witnessed a dozen or so.

Anon leaks to multiple news outlets stated 15k heads chopped within days of publicly denying layoffs.
CWA have declared surplus and given severance, that was confirmed and wraps up Nov 25, 2025.
Groups within GNT, 15% across the board since Verizon no longer values their network.
