Well at 60 I don’t get to choose which dept hire me. I have seen my picky coworkers collect unemployment and remain jobless so I’m just grateful I found something that will last few more years. Kudos that you are doing better than us.

Well you haven’t seen my neighborhood growing up in Mobile.
If I didn’t move to my grandparents in Little Rock for middle and high schools, I’d be just like them in mobile.
For comparison, I have never seen Indians in Newark where I am now remotely behaving like the all white people in Mobile.
Making a house some glorified filthy dorm room is not assimilating. Cooking in the garage and stinking the entire neighborhood is not assimilating.

@ah - It depends on where "there" is, but let's assume India.
What you have to understand is that the big tech centers in India are Potemkin Villages. Go 1 km outside the corporate campus and it's illiterate people cooking over open fires and sh!tt!ng in the middle of the street. The infrastructure is terrible, the politicians are corrupt and have to be bribed to lift a pinky finger, the main industry outside of subsistence agriculture is running massive scam call centers. The only way out is to get an H1B or other visa. But corruption/scam mindset is so deeply embedded, they bring that culture with them to the West.
