Still in probation, fear getting laid off

Hi all ,
Firstly my heart goes out to people who got laid off ,one of my colleague got laid off and we were taken aback by the whole thing (never expected that he would be the one to be impacted by it)

I joined synopsys few months ago , I'm still in probation , I scared that they might lay me off , I can't stop thinking about it, if in the worst case scenario I get laid off , is anything that I can expect in terms of severance or anything at all ? Any advice here ? I work in TPG

they are much more likely to lay off experienced folks since they are more expensive than recent hires. Unless you are Mike Ellow, of course, but thats a whole different story...

Other than that, try to focus on what you can do with your two hands and your knowledge, do not focus on becoming a victim.
Learn as much as you can, work on your market value, have a convincing CV ready, look for new opportunities and don't just sit and wait. Be proactive, as they say.. and active.
Go out, get some fresh air regularily, try to relax and calm down that fear.
Save a buck or two to prep, should they really come after you.

During probation, it all depends on what you signed on offer letter and again depends on country laws too. Where are you based off?

@OP If they just hired you a few months ago, I doubt they would lay you off so suddenly (especially if you are young). And since they already laid off a person in the group, I doubt anyone else will get laid off for some time. Usually, companies don't hit the same group with layoffs right away.
If you have status meetings or have conversations with your manager, see if they take your status as a positive or give you advice on things. That would mean they like your work, and want you to succeed. Make sure you communicate with your team members and ask them questions on things they are experts on. And compliment them, thank them. Get on the good side of the team. Make your self likable.
And save your money. Don't waste whatever you earn on things you absolutely don't need. Buy a cheaper brand or do with what you have. With AI growing at rapid speed, no one knows how long any employee will be employed.
