Yes. I have a friend who was on short term disability getting chemo and was laid off. When you are targeted, you could be on your death bed and still get the pink slip.

I once got laid off from a job while out on FMLA leave.

After the layoff, I sat down with a local well respected Employment lawyer who told me that I could try to sue them and hope I got a sympathetic judge/jury. In reality, however, so-called Government protections are mostly smoke and mirrors in right-to-work states.

Yes. And opposed to many haters here, even DEIs I know of have been fired while on sick leave and/or vacation time… so yes it is possible… for everyone and to everyone.
