Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

To quote Stankey: "NO ONE IS SAFE".…

CORRECTION…CWA represented technicians with 25+ years are absolutely safe. In fact that is the reason that AT&T will be making the enhanced buyout offer of 5 years to age, 5 years to service + $5,000. payment. It is the ONLY way they can reduce the aging workforce and retain the more skilled youngsters. Been done before and it’s about to happen again. Write it down.

If your going to spread bs at least get the numbers right! 5000 dollars to leave a 85k plus job is asinine! last offer was 50k plus your year salary!
that's when a lot of techs took the money!
this id--t is probably at the bottom of the stack so he is just afraid of the cuts!
and by the way we still climb poles just like was said before fiber is in a lot of places where bucket trucks don't fit!!

Actually, to the person who said very few people climb telephone poles... That's news to the 22,000+ field techs in the Korte org, all of whom climb poles daily, or at an absolute minimum every week.

Not to mention the thousands more construction technicians who are hooking rear easement poles to hang cable because the cable trucks can't get back there. (think fiber) as long as there is aerial service, there are poles to be climbed. And as long as we have installation and repair, there will be poles being climbed. And as long as we have garbage trucks, storms, and id--ts, there will be downed drops and cable, and you guessed it..... More poles to climb.

Old guy in old technology thinking he is skilled because he can climb a telephone pole.

Very few people climb a telephone pole anymore. Much like AT&T does not need your skillset anymore. Your job is going to be outsourced. Rasesh Patell is kindly doing the needful right now and working with management on a "knowledge transfer" to do your job. Sorry.

If a Union employee is surplused, and they choose to retire, the contract specifies one year pay of severance about 80K- 90k. If a Union employee is involuntarily surplused They get 1.5 of their of their annual pay, about 127K. No 5-5-5k involved although it did if fact happen around 2001. I saw a lot of folks go when that was offered. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it untrue. I'm sorry for the folks loosing their jobs today

Your 5-5-1 plan is two chin flicks and a middle finger.

Hate to burst your bubble but that call was had earlier. No offer coming. Idk how many times you old heads keep getting told this, but there will not be another offer in our lifetimes. Better take what you can get. The severance package is all there will be. If you’re looking for an offer, that’s the offer. Take it and go play golf, go fishing, garden, travel and move on.

The only real skilled craft employees are the ones with 25+ years or more! Wanting to retain the young craft workers that are still wet behind the ears and somewhat green doesn't make any sense in the short run! T can deal with this years from now, but right now is when T needs its most valuable asset and that's the tenured techs!
