Analysts are looking for earnings of $0.20 /share with revenue of $14.5 billion. If they don't at least meet this low bar and have a better forecast for the year head count reductions will likely accelerate.

The glass was half full and faked by worldwide shortage and pandemic driven need home computers and deluge in tech spending! Now that economic reality is sunk in, nobody is buying PCs as their current one will easily last 5 years, don’t matter how matter how good the new chip is.
Severs will be ugly as AMD is more competitive and cost efficient. Lastly the biggest cloud buyers all developing their own customs chips.
By the time Intel claims they will reach technology parity every major cloud buyer will have similar custom ARM ala Apple.
AMD has a good five year grow story taking MS away from Intel. Intel, there is a reason the stock is priced what it is and still too expensive
If anyone thinks the announced and now delayed fabs in Ohio and Germany will make Intel relevant doesn’t understand the current chip shortage and need. Intel can’t just spend and build fabs and expect to be relevant. Fanatical doesn’t make good strategy and economic business sense!
“Intel, which reports quarterly results Thursday, is expected to post a 23% decline in revenue in its PC-focused business, according to analysts surveyed by FactSet. Intel’s server business sales are fo-ecast to retreat 40% from the year-prior, reflecting a weakening economy and loss of market share to its rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. and to Arm-based chip”
“ Arm-based chips have been winning market share in PCs and have become a more formidable rival in the increas-ingly important data-center market where Intel has long been the undisputed leader. Amazon. MMAMZNMMcom Inc. has embraced the technol-ogy for its self-made server chips, and Microsoft Corp. and Google are working on processors using building blocks licensed from Arm, according to people familiar with their efforts.”

Google, Facebook, Amazon, dang everyone is laying off more than Intel. Intel is living in a warp alternative world. All the fanatical praying and wishing won’t change the hard economic and competitive position facing Intel in client, mobile, more cloud. The competitors are all ahead and better positioned and Intel can’t outspend them nor out execute them to parity.

Intel will beat. They have positive vectors:
- Latest client CPUs have been well received.
- Sapphire Rapids no more in sampling phase but will count as revenue
- Layoffs will bring cost savings and contribute to earnings.
I know my post will be down voted. But wait till Thursday.
Getting managers used to the process so the next cull will be easier for hr
PC sales have plummeted, 10nm Yields aren’t the best, AMD server are eating away MS and forcing huge concessions on price on Intel’s cash cow and the dark clouds are everywhere and getting darker.
All the kings horses and all the kings man ain’t going to be able to put Pat’s Intel back together again.
Pat was a fool to come back after PSO, BK and Bob put the company in the current situation driving off the cliff and Pat was $tupid and arrogant enough floor it and driving it into the ground!
@1iqm+1kO8EC6x -- you do realize that what you describe is far from "pure capitalism", pure capitalism doesn't allow for 'bailouts' of those who F-up because they are politically well-connected to career politicians who are more willing to take bribes and campaign donations rather than uphold the Constitution and rule-of-law.
Intel is sandbagging the numbers... Q4 2021 was $20.58B so, Intel guiding revenue to a 30% cut is huge drop... they better hit that...
... and even if they do so what. Who wants to invest in a company that is losing share and betting it's entire strategy on beating one of the best round and entrenched companies on the planet? For these reasons, I'm out.
the eps number will be meaningless since Intel has many 'options' for how it chooses to account for all the layoff and re-structuring charges. Smart investors see through all those games in any case.
@fth+1kO8EC6x, 100K is a dream. This company needs to be running at around 50-60K if they want to compete. Look at the employment levels at successful competitors.
@1iqm+1kO8EC6x, only the wealthy 0.1% will prosper. I doubt you fall in that category. The rest will be servants in a purely capitalist economy. The system is not balanced. The 0.1% will hire lobbyists to coerce the politicians to their view point. Every system needs checks and balances. Look back at the 2008 crash. Greedy people selling sh-t to the world and selling worthless mortgages to the lemmings. That ended well. Oh wait, their lobbyists got the government to bail them out and they all got their bonuses. Pure capitalism sucks.
I have never been given a job by a poor person... Happy to work from companies that create great products that people want to buy. Capitalism is the best ! Everybody already knows this.
Capitalism is the worst economic system ever devised... until you consider every other system... Don't fool yourself, any government system creates power and corruption. The more you can limit the government the better. And that includes limiting the regulation of capitalism. You have to let weak companies fail.
@kgs+1kO8EC6x, wake up, companies with share holders value those share holders above all else, period. In today's world, the higher you get in a company the more your compensation is stock based. Guess who they want to impress, employees or share holders? Unfortunately, your hard work really doesn't matter. The people running the show will dump you and your colleagues for a bounce in the share price. The greed culture has bought out this country get ready for the long haul.
i think there will be continuous reductions over the next three years until the number of count is below 100k
What have analysis ever contributed to the building of a company, a city, a state, or a nation? They are worthless
Yep. Think it's why they've waited for the first round ending after report so they can go deeper before the next round.
