Just read an article about the severance pay that some of the popular tech companies are offering, made me recall the times when att would give 60 days to find a new job in another group. Not trying to compare.

Severance payouts also depend on the contract, and specifically the article of the contract under which someone's job is covered. Please reread the contract or ask the union.
yeah companies without unions give out some really nice severance.
Technicians with 31 years of service or more under specific contracts are entitled to 104 weeks of severance pay if they are to be laid off from T. For this very reason, these technicians will never be impacted by T layoffs because ATT does not want to pay out that kind of severance! I would be shocked if any of these senior techs are impacted and given 104 weeks of pay just to leave. T doesn't have to do that anymore. T will wait for these techs to retire or leave on their own volition. The last time I saw this occur was in 2017 and never again since!
The company would do it to all of us if they could. If it weren't for the union contract, we'd only get 2 weeks instead of the 3 months that we get.
The good old days, 2001. I was a Legacy T tech working midnights when I got the notice. We got shipped to another building for 60 days. On paper, I stayed on midnight shift, but in reality I came in on days to attend meetings, classes and go to the resource center, nailing a shifted tour compensation. In the end I claimed a job, pocketed an extra $2500, put in another 19 years, surplus again, 6 months severance, two years of unemployment, and now retired. Sweet.
Small/mid sized company - Walk in the office, they send people to one conference room or another as they come into the building, that’s it, no notice, 2 weeks pay regardless of years of service. That’s what it’s like at other companies I’ve worked for. Large company - was 6 months notice you are getting laid off, min 16 weeks severance then 2 weeks per year of service on top of that. That was nice.
